Queens Park Rangers secured a vital three points against promotion candidates Middlesbrough at the weekend, to put them back on track in the Sky Bet Championship.

Steve McClaren's men had been on a poor run of form going into the clash at Loftus Road, winning just one of their previous six league games as they prepared to face Tony Pulis' men.

But the R's started the day on the front foot - Pawel Wzsolek finding the back of the net in the first four minutes of the game, and looked likely to pick up a crucial three points going to the second-half.

Boro did find an equaliser right after the interval through George Saville, however six minutes later, Nahki Wells netted the third and most decisive goal of the game, securing a crucial three points for the R's.

After an impressive victory, here, we take a look at four things we learnt about QPR after their 2-1 win over Middlesbrough...

The R's were dealt an injury blow in the week with the news that solid right-back Angel Rangel would be out of action for around two months.

However after Darnell Furlong's performance on Saturday afternoon, this proves that Rangers can cope without the experienced Spaniard.

Furlong put in, arguably, a man-of-the-match performance for the R's - he may have been at fault for Middlesbrough's equaliser after misjudging a cross, but overall, he looked solid in defence and made a crucial block to deny Ashley Fletcher in the dying embers of the contest.

Another injury blow that the R's were dealt with in the week was the news that midfielder Geoff Cameron would be out for a lengthy spell with ankle ligament injury.

But the performance of midfield duo Massimo Luongo and Jordan Cousins at the weekend should fill R's fans with confidence - the pair looked to have a good understanding with each other in midfield.

They looked tough to break down and looked dangerous going forward, and will be important for Rangers in Cameron's absence.

Nahki Wells was by far and away QPR's standout performer on Saturday.

The 28-year old netted his fifth goal of the campaign at the weekend and was a nightmare for the Boro defence throughout.

In a lone striker, you want someone who puts himself about up top and is a nightmare to mark with his movement. After arriving on loan from Burnley in the summer, he's looking to be a fantastic signing for QPR.

They may have been on a bad run of form before Saturday's clash, but there is no reason why QPR cannot form a promotion push in the second half of the season.

After already defeating promotion candidates Aston Villa and now Middlesbrough at home, their form at Loftus Road will decide their fate come the end of the season for sure.

Finding themselves just five points off the playoff places, there is no reason why QPR cannot be well up there come May.
