Birmingham City picked up a morale boosting point on Saturday afternoon as they battled back from two goals behind to draw 2-2 with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Garry Monk will have been delighted with the spirit his side showed late on at Ewood Park, with Birmingham continuing keep within touching distance of the Championship’s play-off places.

Danny Graham had given Blackburn a lead in the first-half and it looked like Adam Armstrong’s second-half goal had put Rovers out of sight.

However, some clumsy Blackburn defending led to a penalty, which Craig Gardner buried, before Che Adams rounded off a good move to pull Birmingham level and snatch what looks a decent point.

The result itself should give Birmingham confidence heading into Christmas, and here at FLW, we look back on the weekend’s action, identifying FOUR things we learnt about Monk’s side in Lancashire…

There’s no denying that there’s still room for improvement when it comes to defending.

The goals that Blackburn scored were avoidable and sloppy from a Birmingham perspective.

That’s something that must change.

Che Adams’ goal was his 10th of the season, with the 22-year-old starting to show what a real talent he is.

It wasn’t just his goal that was impressive, with Adams getting into some great areas in the first-half, too.

He’s looking really classy in Birmingham’s attack.

Monk’s side might be a distance off the top-six, but the nature of the Championship means they aren’t out of the race.

A run of results needs to be put together in the New Year, but with this kind of spirit in the squad, you wouldn’t back against it.

The spirit on show will give many supporters the confidence that they can challenge for Premier League football whatever is thrown at them.

Last season Birmingham would’ve folded and not picked up a point from a game like this.

Credit for that change in mentality has to go to Monk, with the manager making a real difference.

You’ve got to say he’s amongst the best in the Championship.
