Another underwhelming season at Craven Cottage has seen the fans call for big changes this summer.

With the new EFL starting next season, it is a chance for clubs to refresh and prepare for another season of high emotions.

For Fulham, they can prepare to face relegated Newcastle and Aston Villa - teams they faced just two years ago - alongside Championship newcomers Burton Albion. Slavisa Jokanovic has begun a clear-out at Fulham and is aiming for a promotion push in the 2016/17 season.

The Cottagers finished the season in 20th and it was the goals of Ross McCormack that largely kept the London side in the Championship. His 23 goals amounted to just over a third of Fulham's total goal tally.

Despite a large overhaul last summer, Kit Symons failed to make any headway and after his sacking half-way through the season it took 49 days to find a replacement in Jokanovic.

The former Maccabi Tel-Aviv manager failed to improve fortunes in his half season at the club but with the backing of the board and a brand new season ahead - Fulham should be on the up.

Here are FOUR things that must happen at Fulham this summer to ensure they begin making their way back up to the Premier League.....

Retaining Ross McCormack

The absolute number one priority for Fulham FC is keeping hold of Ross McCormack.

He is a Championship striker through and through and he has been prolific for a number of years now.

It is a miracle that Fulham have managed to keep a hold of the 29 year old as his goal-scoring feats have not been matched by club success and now they must ensure that if they are to have a good season they retain McCormack.

He scored 23 goals in all competitions in the 2015/16 season and is a talisman to the side.

It is vital that to progress they retain a man who is in the form of his career.

Sorting out the situation regarding Moussa Dembele

After nearly joining Tottenham in the January window, Dembele's future is still shrouded in doubt.

"I am not sure if Dembélé is going to be my player next season. I didn’t see him so focused for this game and it’s my decision to try with more midfielders – try and be a little bit more solid." Jokanovic told West London Sport back in March.

The forward has been at the club since he was 16 and has progressed hugely. This season the forward has ten goals to his name and is hot property at the tender age of 19.

Recently speculation about Dembele leaving has faded but towards the end of the season it looked very certain that a big Premier League club would swoop him up.

Jokanovic must decide whether to cash in on Dembele, or attempt to keep a hold of the French forward.

Fixing the defensive woes of last season

Fulham conceded the third most goals in the Championship last season. Only Charlton and Bolton conceded more.

6 foot 6 Dan Burn has left the club after making 69 appearances for the Cottagers and he endured a frustrating season. With Jokanovic looking to make the top six, the likes of Stearman and Garbutt will likely leave alongside Burn.

The back four never gelled together and conceded a whopping 79 goals last season. The Whites have a three man shortlist that includes Blackburn's Grant Hanley and Fulham would do well to sign at least one or two players on their defensive shortlist.

Replacement striker if McCormack and Dembele go

Both players impressed last season and both are highly linked to leave. Even if Jokanovic and the Fulham board are 100% sure that the two won't leave they must prepare regardless.

There is reported interest from Fulham in Crystal Palace striker Glenn Murray and with the board backing Jokanovic with funds this summer, there is a wide range of talent for the club to sign if both leave - even Adebayo Akinfenwa is out on a free transfer this summer if Jokanovic is looking for some muscle.

Realistically, Jokanovic should look to sign someone with experience and a consistent goal record.

Failure to replace McCormack with a prolific striker could lead to the same problems that Norwich had in the Premier League last season, and while Fulham may not get relegated because of that - there is no doubting the importance of a prolific striker.
