Cardiff City missed out on a play-off position last season finishing in 8th, six points off of sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday.

Russell Slade's men faltered towards the end of the season picking up one win in their last seven games and consequently the former Leyton Orient manager was sacked.

Paul Trollope replaces Slade in the top job. The 43-year-old was a part of Slade's coaching staff and is also a coach for Wales. The former Wales player managed Bristol Rovers for five years between 2005 and 2010 and has a wealth of experience working with the likes of Chris Coleman and Chris Hughton.

As for the players, Lex Immers has impressed since joining from Feyenoord on loan and is set to sign for the Welsh side when the transfer window opens. There are still big changes needed at Cardiff though especially in attack.

Paul Trollope will have big expectations from the fans for his first season as Cardiff will almost certainly aim for a top six finish.

Here are FOUR things Cardiff must do this summer to achieve their top six goals...

Sign a striker

Kenwyne Jones, Alex Revell, Tony Watt, Tom Lawrence, Kenneth Zohore - Slade certainly had no luck finding a consistent striker. One of Trollope's first jobs should be to sign a consistent striker.

Cardiff's downfall last season was their failure to find and utilise a prolific forward. At times midfielder Anthony Pilkington was playing up-front as strikers such as Tony Watt, Kenwyne Jones and Alex Revell departed with others just failing to score.

With a top class Championship forward, anything is possible and this should be the first priority on Cardiff's list.

Retain Bruno Ecuele Manga

Bruno Ecuele Manga

The Gabon born centre-half had an injury riddled 2015/16 season making 24 appearances but there is no doubt over his talent.

When Manga was playing Cardiff only conceded three goals on two occasions and the 27 year old played a big part in the Bluebirds' great defensive record.

According to BBC Sport, the board would consider selling Manga this summer, but if the club want to progress they need to become less of a selling club. Manga is an excellent centre-half and to sell him because it is good business could prove costly.

Retain David Marshall

Another player Cardiff must endeavour to keep a hold of is Scotland international David Marshall.

The 'keeper is one of the best in the second tier and made 40 appearances for Cardiff last season. The stalwart 'keeper has made over 250 appearances for the Welsh side and is firmly in the driving seat for another successful season.

To let him go would not be disastrous, but it would add further pressure to find a 'keeper who is just as good as the former Celtic player.

Sign a defender

With Ben Turner going, Cardiff simply must sign another defender. The fan favourite had a niggling ankle problem which proved costly to his chances of staying at the club.

Matthew Connolly made 45 appearances last season in the Championship in what was undoubtedly his best season yet. The 28 year old won player of the year and he was the stalwart centre-half for the side.

Alongside a fully fit Manga, the Bluebirds could improve even further defensively next season, but with Manga, Ajayi and Oshilaja not looking set in stone to stay, Trollope would do well to sign a back-up defender who can come in and put in a shift.

Cardiff fans, do you agree that you need to do these four things this summer? DO you think Manga will leave? Let us know in the comments below!
