When Reading appointed Jaap Stam in the summer, the club knew that it was taking a massive gamble.

The former Manchester United defender had no experience of managing a senior side nor coaching in England but he has taken to Championship management like a duck to water.

Reading are flying in the league so far this season and sit in a very respectable 4th place going into the international break.

While there is still a long way to go, Reading fans would be lying if they told you they weren't optimistic about the future and their prospects of a re-promotion to the Premier League.

However they do not have a top quality striker at the club.

Yakou Meite, Deniss Rakels and Joseph Mendes are all very raw and unproven in England while Yann Kermorgant is competent but unspectacular.

To really ensure they're up there towards the end of the season, they need a top class striker and here are FOUR suggestions for Stam to look at.

Dominic Solanke

Chelsea youngster Dominic Solanke might be made available for loan in January and Reading should be monitoring that situation.

The 19-year-old England youth international is a very talented young striker and brings raw talent to the pitch.

Teemu Pukki

Former Celtic forward Teemu Pukki is banging in the goals in Denmark for Brondby and would be a good addition to Stam's side.

The 26-year-old Finland international has lots of career experience and is in the prime of his career now, with 10 goals already in the Danish Super League.

Nikos Karelis

Greece international forward Nikos Karelis is impressing at Genk after switching from Panathinaikos and could be an option for Reading.

The 24-year-old is a left footed striker who has already netted 8 times in 13 league games for the Belgian side this season.

Jordan Rhodes

Out of favour at Middlesbrough, Jordan Rhodes is an ideal capture for any Championship side.

While he would probably command a record fee from Reading, he would guarantee the goals that would have them up there at the end of the season.
