Bristol City have had a solid start to the season and many supporters are backing them as outsiders for a play-off place after collecting 24 points from the opening 16 games.

It is Lee Johnson's first full season in charge of the Robins and they have shown real promise in the attacking third of the field, scoring 23 times in 16 league games.

One of the main reasons for their success in front of goal this season has been the form of on-loan striker, Tammy Abraham.

Only Newcastle's Dwight Gayle has found the back of the net more often than Abraham and he has been a revelation at Ashton Gate, scoring 12 goals already, 9 of which have come in the Championship.

However, a worry for the Robins would be if Abraham were to get injured, or lose form. Even worse, he could attract interest from other clubs in January, meaning he could be recalled by Chelsea.

With Bobby Reid and Lee Tomlin next in the goal scoring chart with 4 each, Lee Johnson should have one eye on any strikers that become available in January as cover or help for Abraham.

With that in mind, here are FOUR strikers who'd be absolutely superb January signings for Bristol City!

Scott Hogan

24-year-old Scott Hogan moved to Bretford in the summer of 2014 but because of injuries he has played just 24 times for the club, however his impact has been sensational.

Upon his return last season, Hogan scored 7 goals in 7 games and what makes it even more fantastic is that Hogan played just 171 minutes of Championship football last season - that's just under 2 full games!

He's continued his form this season, scoring 8 goals in 17 games, and his exploits in front of goal would make him a superb signing for the Robins, although he would cost a fair amount of money.

Patrick Bamford

Rewind to last summer and Chelsea youngster Patrick Bamford was one of the most sought after strikers in the top two divisions after a hugely impressive season on loan with Middlesbrough.

However, he had unsuccessful spells with Crystal Palace and Norwich and although his move to Burnley has been short, he hasn't played as much as he would have liked with Andre Gray, Sam Vokes and now Ashley Barnes all seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order.

Should the 23-year-old decide to cancel his season-long deal with the Clarets, as he did with Palace last season, then a move to Ashton Gate would be a good choice for Bamford.

Nahki Wells

Robins manager Lee Johnson is developing a bit of a reputation for getting the best out of his players and the 26-year-old could flourish under the 35-year-old.

Wells is on the fringes at Huddersfield since head coach David Wagner brought in his own players in the summer, and he would represent a solid and fairly cheap option for Johnson.

He probably wouldn't displace Tammy Abraham, but he knows where the back of the net is and he's proved that he can score goals in the Championship.

Jordan Rhodes

The Middlesbrough striker has found himself on the fringes of the side since the summer arrival of Alvaro Negredo on loan and the Scotland international may need to leave the Riverside for regular game time.

Given that he cost Boro a reported fee of around £9m, he won't come cheap, but Bristol City owner Steve Lansdown has shown in the past that he is willing to spend big for the right player.

Rhodes is a guaranteed goal scorer and he could shine at Ashton Gate if given the opportunity, particularly with the creative Lee Tomlin behind him.
