Sat seventh in the Championship, one point behind the play-offs, Birmingham City have a strong chance of sealing promotion to the Premier League this season.

However, the vast competitive nature of the division makes things a stern challenge.

Striking duo Lukas Jutkiewicz and Clayton Donaldson lead the scoring charts for the club this season, with five and four goals respectively, but that's a fair way off the likes of Dwight Gayle and Tammy Abraham.

Whilst the other promotion chasing clubs have a hot-shot striker to fie them to success, Birmingham look short on that front and a decent arrival in January could really provide the springboard to success for Gary Rowett's side.

Here, we take a look at FOUR strikers Birmingham could bring into the club in January to fire them towards promotion....

Matty Taylor

Penning a new deal in the summer and rejecting the interest off a host of top clubs in the process, Matty Taylor has been a star in League One this season and has fired in 11 goals - finding the net every 102 minutes on average.

The 26-year-old has a tremendous scoring record for Bristol Rovers during his two years at the club, hitting 58 goals in 106 appearances, and seems ready for a jump to a higher division.

He could get that chance with his current club, with the club sat fifth, but moving to Birmingham would give him the immediate chance to provide an impact.

Omar Bogle

Another option from the lower leagues, 23-year-old Omar Bogle has made a big impression for Grimsby Town.

With nine goals and two assists this season, Bogle is renowned for his strength and build-up play, both of which make him a superb candidate to rise into the higher leagues in the future.

In the previous years, a number of top players have risen from relative obscurity in the lower leagues to become stars in the higher divisions.

It was only a year ago when Bogle rose to the Football League but his record of 22 goals in 52 appearances is phenomenal and shows he's set for a huge future.

It's always a risk snatching a player from a lower division and putting a lot of pressure on them can prove to be difficult but, with Jutkiewicz and Donaldson already at the club, Bogle could be eased into it more.

Chuba Akpom

The young English striker hasn't quite got his opportunity to shine at Arsenal and, with an injury keeping him out for a while, it's unlikely he'll get those chances this season.

Therefore, the 21-year-old could benefit from another loan spell.

Like Bogle, Akpom wouldn't necessarily be able to become the hero on his own but with the support of Jutkiewicz and Donaldson, he could become a real asset to the side.

With Akpom's future in North London under scrutiny too, it could be the first step towards a permanent deal in the future.

Connor Wickham

With limited opportunities for Connor Wickham at Crystal Palace, which has been the case since he signed for the club last August, the 23-year-old would benefit from a brief drop down the division to get his career back on track.

Wickham has Christian Benteke to contend with at Selhurst Park and, although he may get chances here at there in the Premier League, moving to Birmingham would give him the chance to be a leading striker for a top-flight side in his own right.
