Sheffield Wednesday are approaching a critical summer, with another season of mid-table mediocrity facing the Owls.

Garry Monk looked to have Wednesday well in promotion contention at the turn of the year, but things have turned sour with results and Wednesday are falling to a mid-table finish in the coming nine games.

So, a big summer awaits; players need moving on and Monk needs some flexibility to bring in the personnel he wants to work with.

There will be some high-profile names on the way out and some long-serving players will be cutting ties in South Yorkshire.

Here, we take a look at FOUR we could see moving on…

There’s not many other places to start, with Westwood dramatically falling out of favour under Monk over the course of the season.

The Irish international is an outstanding goalkeeper, we know that, but he’s been frozen out for a second time in recent seasons and his future looks like it’ll be elsewhere.

The right time to cut ties, you feel.

Like Westwood, Hutchinson has been frozen out by Monk.

The midfielder has been a popular member of the Wednesday squad over the years, but injuries have plagued him recently and Monk doesn’t fancy him.

A very similar situation to Westwood means a parting seems inevitable in the summer.

The playmaker was remarkable for Wednesday in his first two seasons at Hillsborough, helping the club reach the play-offs.

Yet, his impact has waned since then and he spends more time on the treatment table than on the playing field these days.

At 30 now, Forestieri might well be on the way out.

It’s never really happened for Winnall at Hillsborough and you’d expect him to be part of the exodus.

Winnall is a good striker (he showed that on loan at Derby County in 2017/18), but he hasn’t found his best levels at all since arriving at Wednesday.

A new start is needed for the striker.
