Jos Luhukay will be looking to overhaul the squad in the summer after a disappointing start with the club.

The Owls haven't been able to reach the heights of recent seasons with an injury crisis playing a major part in that.

These injury issues highlighted that some players aren't good enough for the first-team, so incomings and outgoing are likely in the summer.

The four players picked in this article are based on the assumption that the wage bill will be reduced through transfers in order to ease worries about staying within FFP regulations.

Here are the four players that would have a major impact if they were signed in the summer...

Dawson is currently at West Brom who are 10 points away from safety and could be officially relegated at the weekend based on specific results.

The 27-year-old is versatile because he can play either as a centre-back or a right-back, so he is a useful tool to have defensively while also having Premier League quality.

He would be perfect for Wednesday's 3-5-2 formation because he could play as the right centre-back. This is a key area because a poorly set up team in this formation can leave plenty of space to exploit between the wing-backs and the centre-backs. His knowledge of that area ensures that opportunities are limited for the opposition.

There would be a lot of competition for his signature, but he would be worth it because of the improvement he would bring to the backline especially with a replacement needed for Glenn Loovens.

Oviedo is another player facing relegation with his side because Sunderland are on the brink of consecutive relegations down into League One.

The left back/wing-back area is weak for the Owls currently with Adam Reach needed in midfield. Daniel Pudil has moved into the left centre-back area which suits him better while Morgan Fox has disappointed.

George Boyd has been used there with mixed success, but it doesn't suit him and they need a specialist in that role.

Oviedo would be ideal for that role because of his willingness to provide attacking impetus along with his defensive ability. He sometimes prioritises his attacking responsibilities more than he should, but he would help Wednesday be proactive as well as helping their progression up the pitch.

Grosicki would be an excellent attacking weapon to add to the side because of the threat he provides in forward areas from wide positions.

He could be utilised if they need to create overloads down a flank or if the team is being too negative with the wing-backs pushed back by the opposition.

There is a crippling lack of pace in the team currently so he would also help increase their threat on the break through his ability to dribble down the channels and push the opposition back. A significant offer to Hull could be enough to pry him away from the Tigers because realistically Wednesday should be pushing for the play-offs again next season.

Long is another player that could help solve their lack of pace. He might not be the most prolific, but he could help stretch the opposition vertically with his constant willingness to make runs in behind which forces the defensive line back and opens up space for the other players.

The issue is whether the Saints would be willing to let him go as well as what price that would be. However, 5 goals in 56 games over the past two seasons might work against him and convince the club to get rid of him.

He could help provide a key role for the team and his goalscoring record has to be ignored in this regard because Lucas Joao and Gary Hooper can provide goals in abundance, and they would both work well with Long.
