Preston North End are sitting sixth in the Championship table and when the season can resume, Alex Neil’s side will be going in search of Premier League football.

Over the 37 games so far this season, Preston have worked their way into play-off contention and currently hold a slender point lead over seventh-placed Bristol City.

Neil’s side were in poor form pre-EFL postponement, but they are still retaining their own destiny and if things play out how they would like, they might well be a Premier League side in 2020/21.

The fact that North End have promotion on their mind, it is difficult to predict how the summer will play out, but we’ve attempted to look at a quartet of players that could be on their way out of Deepdale…

Nugent returned to Deepdale on a short-term contract back in the summer, but his fairytale return hasn’t quite played out like he might’ve wanted.

He’s scored just once this season and given the fact he’s 34-years-old now, Nugent isn’t going to be a long-term option for North End and if promotion is achieved, it’s hard to see the striker sticking around.

Another year in the Championship might be more realistic, but even then, it isn’t a certainty.

Gallagher is another player over the age of 30 that is out of contract at Preston (according to transfermarkt).

The midfielder has struck six goals this season and been a reliable option for Neil to call on.

Yet, depending on the direction North End are heading in the summer, he might be deemed surplus to requirements.

Clarke is the Preston skipper, but he’s managed only 11 appearances this season and others are firmly ahead of him in the pecking order.

From Nugent, Gallagher and Clarke, there’s every chance that one might be retained, but Neil might not want too many 30+ players kicking around.

Given his contract situation and age, Clarke might be sacrificed.

Rudd was linked with a move to West Ham United back in January, and is another one without a long-term contract at Deepdale.

That means the goalkeeper could well be on his way out in the summer and he's sure to attract more interest, but there’s every chance that could change.

It’s one to watch, for sure.
