Gary Rowett's Birmingham City side have impressed so far this season sitting in a solid 5th place in the table - only seven points from the automatic promotion places.

A 1-0 win over Bristol City at the weekend strengthened their position in the league table with Gary Rowett's side certainly capable of pushing for promotion if they can find some consistency to their performances.

This came despite Birmingham finishing the game with ten men as Jonathan Spector's red card put the lead that Che Adams had handed the Blues in jeopardy but they showed great resilience to see the win through.

Once on the brink of relegation, since Rowett became Birmingham City boss he has completely turned the Blues' fortunes around and has created a strong squad with plenty of depth.

The platform has been set to launch a genuine promotion challenge and a return to the Premier League could well be on the cards for the Blues.

If they are to get to the next level, some Premier League loans in January may be able to help them reach the Premier League once again.

So here are five Premier League loans that Birmingham City must consider in January.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Despite featuring for Manchester United a few times last season, Fosu-Mensah has struggled to get an opportunity to play under Jose Mourinho this season.

A club like Birmingham City - a team capable of promotion and giving him game time - would a perfect move for the youngster.

His strength, pace and power would impress fans at St Andrew's and he would bring even more defensive solidarity to the Blues' back four.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide

Reine-Adelaide hasn't had many opportunities to shine with the likes of Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain ahead of him at Arsenal, but the winger certainly has plenty of talent.

The 18-year-old could do with a loan move to the Championship to make himself known and impress Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger to give him the best chance of making an impact in the Gunners' first team in the seasons to come.

Fraizer Campbell

Fraizer Campbell is struggling for game time at Crystal Palace and a loan move to the Championship to a team pushing for promotion like Birmingham City would be perfect for the former Cardiff City man.

Campbell scored seven goals in 12 appearances for Cardiff City in the 2012/13 season so is proven at Championship level and would be an impressive signing for the Blues.

Jordan Rhodes

Surprisingly, Jordan Rhodes has struggled to feature for Middlesbrough this season despite helping them to gain promotion last season.

Rhodes is a natural goalscorer and will undoubtedly score goals at Championship level.

Although Birmingham's rivals Aston Villa have been linked with a move for quite some time, Rhodes would be a tremendous coup for Gary Rowett's side and he could be the man to fire them to promotion.
