Sheffield Wednesday’s 2017/18 campaign has been a disappointment, there is no getting away from that, as the Owls drift towards a mid-table finish under Jos Luhukay.
It has been a season where injuries have hit the Owls, with Luhukay not having a fully fit squad yet during his time at Hillsborough.
The likes of Fernando Forestieri and Tom Lees have missed large chunks of the season, but so to have Barry Bannan, Kieran Lee and Sam Hutchinson, who all play a key role in central midfield.
Wednesday have still had bodies in that area of the field, with David Jones one man to step in for the injured trio.
Jones has disappointed on the whole, failing to bring what his teammates can to the central midfield role.
The return of the likes of Bannan and Hutchinson coincided with an upturn in results, and it is likely that Jones’ role would be a lot more limited had others been available.
