It has been a superb season for Cardiff City in the Sky Bet Championship, with the Bluebirds competing at the right end of the table and looking for a Premier League return.

Neil Warnock has worked wonders in the Welsh capital, transforming his squad into automatic promotion contenders and defying all the odds laid out at the start of the season.

Cardiff’s squad is far from the best in the Championship, but have been so good this season. During the summer though, Warnock will want to improve the quality of player he has available to him.

One man who could be on his way out of the Cardiff City Stadium in the summer is Aron Gunnarsson, who is attracting interest from elsewhere and is yet to agree a new deal with the Bluebirds.

Here at FLW, we take a look at the possibility of Gunnarsson moving on and FOUR upgrades Warnock could turn to…

Pearson has been good for Preston North End in the Championship this season, proving to be an real enforcer in midfield.

Warnock is the type of manager to get the best out of a player like the 23-year-old, who could be a good option.

Vela is a slightly more attacking option in midfield, but could be someone who improves Warnock's Cardiff.

The Bolton midfielder could add a lot to the squad Warnock has put together in Wales.

McNair hasn't really impressed at Sunderland, but is a good player who looks like he could benefit from a move away from the Stadium of Light.

The Northern Irish international is versatile, but has arguably played his best football in central midfield.

Gunnarsson is a physical midfield, and although Bridcutt's stature is different, he is a player that makes a nuisance of himself in a central area.

Bridcutt's spell with Nottingham Forest isn't going as planned, which could open the door for a move.
