Garry Monk has a task on his hands at Birmingham City, although early indications suggest he has what it takes to guide the club to survival in the Sky Bet Championship.

Birmingham have struggled for large parts of the season, with neither Harry Redknapp nor Steve Cotterill able to get the best out of a playing squad needing some attention in the summer.

Monk’s arrival has brought an improvement and should be enough to guide Birmingham to safety this season, which seemed like it might be a big ask earlier in the year.

Even if Birmingham stay up, Monk needs to have a look at his playing squad and freshen it up.

One player who could be on the way out is Jacques Maghoma, 30, who has struggled for real consistency at St Andrew’s.

With that in mind, we take a look at FOUR replacements for Monk to consider…

Hernandez has been terrific for Leeds United across the Championship this season, and Monk has a connection with the 33-year-old.

On the wing isn’t Hernandez’s best position, but he has flourished there for Leeds this season and would be an upgrade on Maghoma.

Barrow was another Monk took to Elland Road, before he switched to Reading last summer.

Despite a successful year at the Madejski Stadium, Paul Clement might not see Barrow featuring in his long-term plans, which could potentially open the door for Monk to reunite.

Ameobi has done well at Bolton this season and could be someone Monk takes a look at.

There are flaws to his game, but Monk has proven to be a manager capable of ironing out those flaws.

This might be a little but difficult for Birmingham to pull off, but Monk and Pep Clotet, his assistant, have worked with the winger before at Leeds.

The spell at Elland Road was difficult, but Pedraza is impressing in Spain now and might be better suited to the English game.
