Portsmouth haven't necessarily been renowned for the products of their youth set-up - especially in comparison to their local rivals down the road.

However, with Kenny Jackett at the helm, whose beliefs lie solidly with youth football and promoting within, Pompey fans could be seeing some of these names in the first team and even in the starting XI next season.

The south coast outfit are well in the mix for a top six spot in Sky Bet League One this season, especially after their superb win over Wigan Athletic at Fratton Park on Monday.

With Jackett potentially having one eye on the summer and the transfer window, we've decided to look at four Portsmouth wonderkids that we could see in the starting XI next season....

As you'll probably recognise from his surname, Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain is the younger brother of Liverpool and England's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The younger Ox has been a product of the Pompey academy, signing a professional contract in summer 2016, and even made an appearance in the first team during the Football League cup game against Exeter, but has yet to really make an impact.

With his name comes a reputation, but that shouldn't hamper his chances of a future place in the Pompey starting eleven.

Theo Widdrington was a stand-out player for the Pompey academy, including captaining the under-18s side during the 2016/17 season.

Signing a professional contract last summer, Widdrington was sent out on-loan to Havant and Waterlooville, before being recalled for a place on the bench in Pompey's New Year's Day fixture against Bristol Rovers.

With plenty of places in Pompey's midfield up for grabs, and existing midfield duo Adam May and Ben Close coming up through the ranks, Widdrington will certainly be making a case for himself next season at Fratton Park.

Bradley Lethbridge originaly signed for Portsmouth's academy as a central midfielder but was unsuccessful and released the following season. But that didn't hold him back - he returned four years later as a striker and has been banging goals in for Pompey's youth set-up ever since.

Described by the club as "a powerful forward with an impressive goalscoring record at academy level", Lethbridge will be looking to following in the footsteps of first team striker Conor Chaplin and earn himself a professional contract soon.

Lethbridge even earned himself a place on the Pompey bench against Northampton Town earlier in the season during their Checkatrade Trophy run, but remained an unused substitute. That side - he's obviously in Jackett's sights already and could be one for the future.

Joe Hancott is a local lad, hailing from the Isle of Wight and a solid full-back.

With Portsmouth already relying on loan deals to fill their gaps on both sides of their defence this season, Hancott could be one to promote from the academy next year.

The young defender even made himself an appearance in Portsmouth's 3-3 draw with Fulham under-21s in the Checkatrade Trophy this season - and enjoys overlapping from defence.

So Pompey fans, keep your eyes out for Hancott next season!
