The appointment of Owen Coyle at Ewood Park this week was another head in the hands moment for the Blackburn fans who have not had much to cheer about this year.

The club have been criticised for their lack of ambition from the owners that led to Paul Lambert leaving his post at the end of the season.

Coyle has had Championship success in the past, but with Rovers' arch rivals Burnley. There has been some negative reaction to the ex-Burnley manager's arrival, with a petition set up against him.

Rovers are regarded as a reputable club and should be looking for promotion, considering they were a Premier League side during the 2011/2012 campaign.

The club have had a defeated character about them this year, with the side under performing and unable to keep hold of their star players, with Jordan Rhodes departing for Middlesbrough in January.

Blackburn have several talented players that they can count on, but Coyle will need to keep hold of his star men if he has any chance of changing around the clubs fortunes and the fans opinions of him.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies FOUR Rovers players who will shine under Coyle next season…

Ben Marshall

With the departure of Rhodes, it was really Marshall’s time to step up to the plate and he certainly did after a strong second half to the season.

The winger contributed six goals for his side and really helped his side steer away from the bottom three.

There is a lot of work needed to be done at Ewood Park, but Marshall can be part of those foundations to get the club back on track.

However, the winger’s contract is up at the end of next year and the club need to have a successful season if he is to be tempted to stay with the Championship club.

Grant Hanley

The centre back has been extremely consistent for the club this season and was deservedly the club’s player of the year.

The 24-year-old defender has been on the books of Blackburn his entire professional career so far and has a contract with the Championship club until June 2018.

However, the Scottish internationals outstanding year has attracted attention from several clubs such as Derby County and Rangers.

Coyle wants to keep the player at Ewood Park next season, but he will have to do some serious persuading if he is to retain his services.

With the Rams likely to push for promotion again next season and the Scottish club aiming to compete with Celtic for the title, these opportunities could offer Hanley something meaningful for next season.

Shane Duffy

The Blackburn Rovers defender's fine season has been rewarded with a place in the Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2016 squad that will spark a huge confidence boost for the 24 year old.

The best part of Rover’s squad this season has been their defence after only conceding 46 goals – the 5th best in the division.

Coyle's priority needs to be convincing his star defender and centre back partner Hanley to remain at the club, as they will both continue to improve each year.

Craig Conway

conway

The Scottish winger came to Ewood Park with a big reputation, and although he has done relatively well at the club, I feel like he still isn’t playing to his full potential.

The player has shown during his career that he is a tricky customer who possesses a great amount of energy and can turn defenders inside out.

Conway is expected to be one of the players that Coyle will be looking to hold onto this summer and could be a big player at Ewood Park next season.
