Lee Johnson's Bristol City side continue to win plaudits after a good start to the season in the Championship that has made outsiders feel they have a real chance of promotion again.

Bristol City sit 8th in the Championship going into today's games, with a healthy 15 points from the opening ten games after last night's draw with Aston Villa.

After narrowly missing out on a play off spot last year, Lee Johnson has done everything in his power to make sure Bristol City can gain promotion to the Premier League.

A few years ago, the Premier League may have been a distant dream for Bristol City. The Robins were always seen as an average mid-table side that never really threatened the top teams.

Now, it is different, with Bristol City really feeling like they have a chance of promotion.

But can they get there? If they do, do they rely on the players who got them there or go into the market?

Here, we look at FOUR players Lee Johnson may axe if his side were promoted...

Niki Maenpaa was brought in from Brighton this season and has proved himself as a decent shot stopper.

However, the Finnish international is obviously not top flight standard, which was highlighted by the reluctance to even have him as sub keeper for Brighton.

Adam Webster made the move from Ipswich town this summer to replace Aden Flint who moved on, and has looked solid in the City defence.

Despite this, Johnson would probably have to recruit a more experienced (Premier League wise) defender if his side were to stay up.

It may sound harsh, but often, relying on the players who get teams promoted is a negative and can lead to disastrous consequences.

Sometimes you have to evolve and bring in new faces to cope with the step up, and Brownhill may be one to face this axe.

Andi Weimann will probably feel he has proven he is Premier League standard over the last few seasons, but I am not convinced.

From the outside, it seems that the Austrian is the perfect example of a player who shines in the second tier, but doesn't affect games at all in the top flight.
