Sunderland are on course for a second successive relegation after defeat against Preston on Saturday made it ten games without a win.

Chris Coleman's side remain just five points from safety, however the manner of recent performances will have many fans resigned to their fate.

Whilst it's hard to think of anything positive at the state of the club at the minute, relegation to League One will surely see many of the players depart, allowing Coleman to build his own side.

In fact, wholesale changes are inevitable at the Stadium of Light in the summer regardless of what division the club is in and it will please fans.

Here at FLW we look at four Sunderland players fans will be glad to see leave.

Thankfully, Gibson is out of contract in the summer and has already played his last game for the club.

His latest off the field incident brought further shame and embarrassment to the club and himself, which saw Sunderland suspend the player.

The Ireland international's professionalism has been questioned for years and his performances on the pitch have been below par as well.

One of the many highly-paid and underperforming players that have cost the club so much.

Sunderland are desperate to get rid of Rodwell who is still picking up a Premier League wage that is rumoured to be around £70,000.

It must be sickening for fans to see the club in such turmoil whilst the former Manchester City man picks up that money and doesn't even play.

Of course, it's the incompetence from those at the top that meant he didn't have a relegation wage drop but the Black Cats will hope Rodwell forces a move this summer to resurrect his career but you can't guarantee it will happen.

The experienced defender has had a very good career but he has just gone on for too long now.

O'Shea continually plays at the back for Sunderland and simply isn't good enough, with the Irishman 37 in April.

Unlike the others, he doesn't have a bad attitude but he still needs to leave.

Similarly, Cattermole is a player who has no confidence and is no longer the player he was.

At his best he was a tough, tenacious midfielder who would make life hard for any opposition midfielder but those days are long gone now.

Sunderland need to rid themselves of all the players who have been part of the struggles over recent years, which includes Cattermole.
