Portsmouth are undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in Sky Bet League Two, and they are currently fifth in the table just six points from an automatic promotion place.

With January on the horizon, clubs will look to strengthen for either promotion or to fend off relegation.

Portsmouth are looking upwards towards League One and climb the leagues back to a loftier perch.

After a disappointing campaign last term, they will hoping with the guidance of manager Paul Cook and the backing of the Pompey Supporters Trust, they will achieve their goal of promotion from League Two.

They will however be looking to recruit in the transfer window, and to do so they might well need to cut loose some of the players, and make room in the squad for new players to be brought in to the south coast club.

Brandon Haunstrup

Brandon Haunstrup

Haunstrup is left-back that has come through the Portsmouth academy, he signed his first professional contract this summer with the south Coast club.

He made his senior debut in the Cup but won't really push into the first team this season, so the most likely outcome is a loan to gain some first-team football.

Loan moves for young players like Haunstrup are often very beneficial, and it would be a good move for all parties involved in a potential deal.

Ben Close

Ben Close

Another player from the Portsmouth academy, this is his second season with the club, he has made just 12 appearances in two seasons.

Three of them so far this term, it is unlikely with the players in front of him that he is going to break into the first-team squad anytime soon.

Defiantly a candidate for moving on to another club - Close would benefit from a loan move to another Football League club to help develop and mature him as a professional footballer.

At the age of just 19, the defender has plenty of time to improve and become a better footballer over the next few years.

Matt Tubbs

Now bear with me , I know Matt Tubbs has been an excellent player for Portsmouth, but sometimes, you have to say goodbye to players you don't want too.

He has scored five goals so far this had has had some superb performances, but has been plagued with injury.

At 31 years of age, Portsmouth should try and cash in on him while he still holds a transfer value.

Therefore, it would allow the club to invest in another striker who could serve your club for the long-term.

Ben Tollitt

This former Everton trainee only joined in the summer,  and has gone on to make seven appearances for the club so far.

However, the 21-year-old simply doesn't command a first team starting spot, and wold undoubtedly benefit from a loan move away from the south coast club.

I know he is young, but Pompey have languished in the lowest tier of English football for too long, and now is the time to recruit quality not quantity.

Tollitt clearly has potential, so it would be silly to offload the player on a permanent deal, but to let him go on a short-term loan deal would be beneficial for all parties involves.
