Nottingham Forest ran out 4-3 winners over Wigan Athletic at the City Ground on Saturday to end a sequence of two successive defeats, with losses coming on the road at Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford.

A brace from Oliver Burke and one apiece for Britt Assombalonga and Thomas Lam ensured the Reds collected a vital three points, and kept up their 100% record at the City Ground.

French boss Philippe Montanier is slowly adjusting to life in English football and with his squad boasting lots of youngsters at present, he could look to enter the transfer market to add some experienced heads ahead of next Wednesday’s deadline.

Striker Assombalonga limped off during Saturday’s game whilst Danny Fox also picked up a knock, and new additions could be helpful for Montanier especially now that the emergency loan concept has been scrapped.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at four players who Nottingham Forest should sign ahead of next week’s deadline.

Nelson Oliveira

The Reds will surely look to add to their attacking arsenal before the transfer window slams shut and Oliveira is a man who would need no introduction to the Forest faithful.

The Portuguese striker spent last season on loan with Forest and netted nine goals during his season-long stay in the East Midlands.

It is thought that Oliveira is surplus to requirements at Benfica and although they would probably prefer to offload him permanently, a loan move could be viable if terms could be reached on a deal at the end of the temporary switch.

James Tarkowski

The central defender was only signed by Burnley last February so the Clarets could be reluctant to let him leave so soon.

Nonetheless the solid defender would be a shrewd loan signing for anyone in the Sky Bet Championship and the chance to play regular football would be good for the player.

The 23-year-old only managed four appearances for the Clarets last season and he has seen his career stall somewhat over the past four of five months.

Forest have shipped 10 goals in their first four Championship fixtures and tightening the back four must be a priority for the Reds’ boss.

Patrick Bamford

With other clubs seemingly hesitating over taking a chance on the Chelsea youngster, Forest would be wise to try and steal a march on their Sky Bet Championship rivals.

Bamford would be a quality acquisition and given his life-long affection for the club the striker would probably welcome the chance to play first-team football for the Reds, after starting his career with the club’s youth academy.

The striker has Championship experience with Middlesbrough and Derby County and provided he was utilised in the right position he would be a quality signing for Forest.

Dimi Konstantopoulos

The Middlesbrough goalkeeper has found himself down the pecking order at the Riverside Stadium and a loan move could happen for the transfer deadline.

The Greek stopper was in fine form for Boro last season and produced a series of scintillating performances to help the club to promotion back into the Premier League.

The signings of Victor Valdes and Brad Guzan could see him surplus to requirements however and with Forest in the market for a custodian, he could be a shrewd replacement for Dorus de Vries.
