Ipswich Town have been fairly timid compared to the other Championship clubs during this summer’s transfer window, after a tight budget has been placed upon them by their owner.

The Tractorboys have sealed some good signings such as Grant Ward and Adam Webster, who are showing signs that they could be important players for the East Anglican outfit for the season.

The Town have made a steady start for the new season as they sit in 13th place with 5 points, but they will be looking to go that one step further after just missing out on the play-offs last year.

However, the clock is ticking until the transfer market closes, and Mick McCarthy has revealed there are a few players in his sights, including loanees and out-of-contract players.

There still plenty of talented players, who are either desperate for a club or looking for a loan move to gain first-team football, and Portman Road could be a excellent destination for them.

Leon Best

The former Coventry City striker Leon Best is on trial at the Championship outfit in an attempt to revitalise his career.

He was with Rotherham United last season, playing 16 times and netting four goals, but saw a contract offer withdrawn under new Millers' boss Alan Stubbs.

Best will now be hoping to impress McCarthy and earn a contract at Portman Road.

The 29-year-old forward was born and bred in Nottingham and the move could be ideal for both the player and the club.

Adam Armstrong

Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor watched Armstrong play for Newcastle United’s under 23 game against West Ham United on Monday night.

The Toon youngster is highly regarded at the north east club and has featured in two league encounters for his club this season.

However, the return of senior striker Aleksandar Mitrovic following his suspension is expected to push the England Under-19 international down the pecking order.

The youngster impressed on loan last season in League One, scoring 20 goals for Coventry in 40 appearances and could be an excellent loan signing at Portman Road.

Martin Samuelsen

The 19-year-old recently signed a four-year contract at West Ham, but could be offloaded on loan to the Championship to gain first-team experience.

The midfielder has played in the Europa League with the Hammers, and also impressed during a loan spell last season with Peterborough United – representing the League One club on 20 occasions.

He would certainly bolster their midfielder and add some much needed competition.

Junior Hoilett

An ideal acquisition for Ipswich would be former QPR winger Junior Hoilett, who was released from the West London outfit in the summer and is still seeking a club.

The winger had a poor year last season, but once he is full of confidence, he can be an excellent prospect and often causes full-backs nightmares.

He is most comfortable playing out wide on the left, but is fully proficient at playing anywhere along the front-line.

His style is direct in nature and he has tremendous ability when running with the ball at his feet.

He would also provide Ipswich with an added goal threat from midfield.
