Bristol City have had a positive transfer window which has created an excited, optimistic buzz among supporters ahead of the new season.

Bristol City fans have been used to the traditional relegation scrap in the second tier and were recently playing their football in League One.

Since then they have bounced back up, appointed a young and ambitious manager in the shape of Lee Johnson and given him financial backing to improve the squad.

Johnson has added eight senior players already in this window with big names such as Gary O'Neil, Hordur Magnusson, Tammy Abraham, Callum O'Dowda and Lee Tomlin coming in to the club.

However, Bristol City could do with adding a few more faces to their squad before the transfer window slams shut to add depth and quality to their squad ahead of a potential play-off push.

To survive a whole, demanding Championship season without injuries is almost unheard of so a few more recruits should keep everyone fresh, rotated and hungry to make the first team.

Johnson is still in the market to add another centre back and a striker to his squad, as the priority positions going into the final stages of this summer's window.

Here are FOUR players that Lee Johnson should bring in before the end of the transfer window...

Joel Ekstrand

Joel Ekstrand is currently on trial at Bristol City and the free agent would be a great addition if he can remain fit.

The centre half was an integral part of the Watford defence between 2012 and 2015, as they achieved promotion to the Premier League.

The twice-capped Sweden international suffered an injury last season, however, and did not feature once in the Premier League, so decided to leave upon his contract expiry.

The 27-year-old will be keen to impress if he joins Bristol City in a bid to relaunch his career after his devastating injury.

Joleon Lescott

Lescott is not wanted by Aston Villa and the club were apparently willing to buy him out of the last year of his contract, ahead of a proposed move to Rangers.

That move has fallen through but he still could be available on a free, and he would be an ideal addition to Johnson's squad.

He would add top level experience to the defensive ranks having played for Wolves, Everton, Manchester City and West Brom before joining Villa.

The 34-year-old is a left-sided 6'3'' centre half with all the attributes to make him a good player in the Championship if he knuckles down and applies himself.

The former England international could fancy a move to Bristol City as they are an ambitious club on the up.

Patrick Bamford

A striker is another priority for Lee Johnson as the future of Jonathan Kodjia is in doubt, and both Kodjia and Abraham could be off on international duty for Ivory Coast and England under-19's respectively.

Without those, they are left with veteran 36-year-old Wilbraham so another signing is needed.

The 22-year-old is a proven goalscorer at Championship level but has never really cut it in the Premier League, so could drop down a league to reignite his stalling career.

The former England under-21 international is a left footed striker with an eye for goal and he would be a perfect fit in Johnson's side.

Ashley Fletcher

Slaven Bilic may sanction a loan move for Ashley Fletcher to the Championship.

Leeds have previously been linked with the 20-year-old, who was a hit at Barnsley on loan from Manchester United last season.

Fletcher stands at about 6'2'' and is a handful for defences with his strength and pace.

The England under-20 international made his Premier League bow in West Ham's 1-0 victory over Bournemouth last weekend but stands behind Ayew, Carroll, Calleri and Valencia in the pecking order so might be allowed to have another loan stint in the football league to develop his game.
