Brentford significantly struggled last season and had to rely on their star player Alan Judge to make sure they sustained their Sky Bet Championship status.

However, Judge may be on his way to Newcastle United and, without him, the club need to act quickly to make sure they do not replicate another dire season.

If Judge leaves, they are expected to receive a large amount of money, and that could be used to strengthen the squad.

The Bees have so far brought Romaine Sawyers, Calum Elder, Dan Bentley and John Egan to Griffin Park.

Brentford have had a positive start to the season, picking up six points in their opening four league games in the Championship, but it is a long season and time is running out to strengthen the squad.

Manager Dean Smith has insisted that he isn't frustrated by Brentford's lack of progress in the transfer market due to their tight budget, but they could target players that are available for loan and out of contract.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Ashley Williams identifies FOUR players Brentford should sign before August 31st…

Chris Willock

Brentford are hoping to take Chris Willock on loan for the duration of the 2016/17 season.

Arsenal seem to have developed a good relationship with Brentford over the years, as the Gunners have previously loaned Wojciech Szczesny, Jon Toral and Chuba Akpom to Griffin Park.

The 18-year-old winger is extremely highly-rated and tipped to be a genuine star of the future.

Playing regularly for the Championship side would be fantastic for his development, having been a fixture in first team training as well as making the Arsenal squad for their US tour earlier this summer.

Emmanuel Ledesma

The Bees currently have Emmanuel Ledesma signed on non-contract terms, and a decision on whether to give him a contract should be made shortly.

His fitness has significantly improved and he did well in their 1-0 defeat to Rotherham United.

The midfielder is trying his utmost to earn himself a contract at Griffin Park, and he would certainly provide competition in midfield.

Junior Hoilett

An ideal acquisition for Brentford would be former QPR winger Junior Hoilett, who was released from the West London outfit in the summer and is still seeking a club.

The winger had a poor year last season but, once he is full of confidence, he can be an excellent prospect and often causes nightmares for full-backs.

He is more comfortable playing out wide on the left, but is fully proficient at playing anywhere along the front-line.

His style is direct in nature and he has tremendous ability when running with the ball at his feet. He would also provide Brentford with an added goal threat from midfield.

Charlie Mulgrew

The former Celtic left-back was released from the club in the summer and is still yet to find a club.

Brentford’s star left-back Jake Bidwell left the club for QPR during the current window, and the signing of Mulgrew would be an ideal replacement. He would also provide stiff competition for Calum Elder.

The 30-year-old full-back has a significant amount of experience, having represented Celtic in the Champions League and being a part of the side that beat Barcelona in 2012.
