The aim for Coventry City next season is simple: promotion.

For a team that has been so unsuccessful in recent years, the fans deserve something to cheer.

Always well supported through thick and thin, Coventry have failed to reach the top six of any division since the 1960s.

Last season showed signs of promise and Sky Blues fans were believing that it could be the year that their fortunes turned until Christmas - a drastic reversal in form and confidence saw Coventry plummet from the top of the league into mid-table.

Last season Coventry arguably had the strongest squad on paper but another failure might see a few departures this summer.

It is imperative to next season's promotion prospects that City keep some of their stars.

With plenty of talent in the team, Coventry will fancy their chances if the main men can stay and propel the promotion push.

Here are FOUR key players that could drive Coventry to glory next year...

Reice Charles-Cook

Amidst a disappointing dark end to the season, Charles-Cook emerged as one of the few bright sparks.

The 22-year-old seized his chance after an injury to first team goalkeeper Lee Burge and has since made the number one position his own.

The former Arsenal youth goalkeeper is admittedly prone to the odd handling error but his shot stopping is magnificent and he improves with each appearance that he makes.

Charles-Cook is a cult hero too and will look to continue his fine form between the sticks next year.

John Fleck

The Scottish midfield maestro is way too good to be playing in League One.

His contract is up and he has been offered fresh terms with Tony Mowbray and Coventry fans each eagerly awaiting his decision.

The 24-year-old has a ferocious left foot and keeps possession extremely well whilst also demonstrating an eclectic range of passing.

Retaining his services could prove the difference in Coventry's promotion hopes next season.

Romain Vincelot

Romain Vincelot rivalled Adam Armstrong for signing of the year last season after arriving from Leyton Orient.

The Frenchman is a combative central midfielder who can also operate in defence.

His partnership with Fleck was one of the main reasons that Coventry's midfield was dominating lots of games early on in the season.

Competent in the air, on the ground and a tremendous tackler, Vincelot is just the kind of effective player who keeps teams ticking over.

Jodi Jones

Coventry's first signing of the summer could prove to be the most important.

After signing on loan from Dagenham and Redbridge towards the end of last season, Jones impressed with pace, skill and trickery on the wing.

At just 18 years of age, Jones picked Coventry ahead of a number of Championship suitors so that he could develop his game properly.

Sky Blues fans will be excited to see the East Londoner in action again next season whilst also hoping that he is more selfish and tries more shots.
