In a week where the Rovers met the Blades, the Brewers meet the Spireites and the Latics take on the, erm, Latics; Football League World investigates which local rivalries of English football's third tier, could become significant before the season's end in May.

Wigan v Bury: The DW stadium faithful, will be glad to see a change a more consistent side from the one which started in 2015, now in third and chasing a promotion place, fixtures like the 27th February against the Shakers will be decisive.

David Flitcroft's men have every reason to be confident visiting Athletic, with a comprehensive 4-0 victory earlier in the season in the FA cup and holding out for a 2-2 draw back at Gigg Lane in October, underlines that the 12 place difference cannot be taken as gospel.

Wigan are breathing down the necks of Walsall and Burton in a bid to return to the Championship, and if their current 9 match unbeaten run continues, they are sure to be considered as favourites in the North West meeting.

Bury are currently meeting pre season aspirations to stay in the division, currently with an eight point cushion over Fleetwood in the relegation zone, however slip ups or positive results in games such as this may dent or cement their place in the division next term.

Key men: Max Power (Wigan)- The midfield grafter and creator is the heartbeat of Gary Caldwell's side, Leon Clarke (Bury)- Bury's top scorer is a threat in the penalty area and would be key in what is a usually water tight Wigan defence.

Sheffield United v Barnsley: Approaching the final few games of the season, and if the table stays as tight as it is at the moment on the cusp of the play-off's, this Yorkshire derby may well decide who gets the chance to seal promotion at Wembley.

The Blades will host, the currently managerless, Barnsley at Bramall Lane, with the intention of redeeming what has been a fairly average season so far for under fire Adkins' men, sitting 11th in the table.

Barnsley sit only one place above in 10th and after losing Lee Johnson to the vacant manager spot at Bristol City, the club will be hoping to carry on pressuring the top six.

This fierce rivalry, finished 1-1 at Oakwell, demonstrating the little difference in each of the side's squads. With strong forwards and a leaky defence, the game is likely to be open and free flowing when the sides meet again in April.

Key men: Billy Sharp (Sheffield United) League Ones third highest scorer, a renowned poacher at this level and above is a threat to many sides, Sam Winnall (Barnsley) League One's second highest scorer, not labelled 'Super Sam' for nothing.

Fleetwood v Blackpool: The first time the Flyde coast rivalry has clashed in the League, has been a mostly miserable affair so this season. Yet only a few years ago the Tangerines were in the top flight, and the Cod Army were storming their way out of Non-League football.

Going on current form and league position, this game could well dictate who stays and who goes from League One into League Two. Blackpool 18th, are only four points from the drop zone, with a game in hand on Fleetwood.

Steven Pressley's men have a lack of goal scoring presence, reminiscing Jamie Vardy, threatening their goal to stay in the division. Their hopes of winning this derby, are boosted by a home advantage, after a 1-0 loss earlier in the season.

Blackpool's season looked to have steered in the run up to the New Year, however an inconsistent Pool have failed to live up to their expectations. A win against their new, local rivals, would help consolidate a place in the division, if the table can be replicated come April.

Key men: Booby Grant (Fleetwood) The red's wide man, is vital in both creating and converting, in a limited Fleetwood attack, Tom Aldred (Blackpool)- A reliable presence at the heart of Blackpool's defence, will provide stability against a desperate Fleetwood side nearing the end of the season.

Gillingham v Millwall: What a London Derby this could be, on the last day of the season, with both sides likely to pushing for a play off place, Priestfield Stadium will be a cauldron of tension with just two places separating the sides.

The Gills still have an automatic spot firmly in their sights, just a point off Walsall in second. This fixture may even decide if they make this spot, with an attacking threat better than any other in the league, at 55 so far, Millwall will fear the Blues intent on arrival.

Millwall have improved on their poor start though, Neil Harris' side are currently on a five match unbeaten run and if this run is maintained until May, the Lions' gelling squad will be bolstered with confidence of making the top six.

The Den was silenced back in December after their South East neighbours, thrashed them 3-0, strengthening Gillingham's push for automatic places. The pressure on both teams come May, will make for a even tastier atmosphere than normal.

Key men: Bradley Dack (Gillingham)- An advanced midfielder, capable of spinning a game on its head in a blink, vital in games such as these, Jed Wallace (Millwall) The Wolves loanee, will increase a heated battle in midfield, with an eagle's eye for setting up opportunities.
