Gary Rowett has been a breath of fresh air for Millwall, with the former Stoke City boss having taken his new side up to the giddy heights of 12th in the Championship table, a meagre four points off the play-off places.

Given the fact that the Lions have now gone six games unbeaten in the league, the Lions boss will surely be relishing the prospect of strengthening what is a thinly stocked squad in the upcoming January transfer window.

The New Den club will also be looking to move on a few players so that they can balance the books in south Bermondsey, with a few players likely to be facing an uncertain future this winter.

Here, we take a look at FOUR Millwall players who could well be heading for the exit door in the January transfer window....

Aiden O'Brien

The 26-year-old forward is something of a club stalwart nowadays, having been at the New Den since 2011, and now could well be the time for the striker to seek a move in search of more playing time after making just 12 appearances for the Lions this term.

With both Tom Bradshaw and Matt Smith likely to remain ahead of the Irishman in the pecking order, it may be best for the sake of his career if he goes in search of pastures new, with the player currently out of favour under Rowett.

Tom Elliott

The former AFC Wimbledon target man has struggled for both fitness and form in recent years at the New Den and with the likes of Jon Dadi Bodvarsson and Smith being in the same mould as the 29-year-old, now could be the time to leave the London club.

There was speculation surrounding the future of Elliott during the summer and those rumours could well resurface after a hellish start to the campaign for the towering forward.

Jason McCarthy

Another player who could well make a mid-season exit from the New Den is former Southampton defender Jason McCarthy, with the 24-year-old having been sidelined with a toe injury, he could well be in line for a temporary spell away from the club to accumulate much needed match fitness.

Millwall's back four has been largely settled under Rowett and it seems unlikely that McCarthy will indeed be able to dislodge the likes of Shaun Hutchinson or Mahlon Romeo from the starting eleven.

Jiri Skalak

Given his age, Skalak certainly needs to be playing more regularly and for that reason we may also see the Czech depart from the New Den, with his game time having been limited of late by the form displayed by Shane Ferguson and Connor Mahoney.

The 27-year-old could do with a permanent or temporary move away from south Bermondsey in order to get on a run of form ahead of the European Championships, with game time likely to be at a premium under Rowett.
