One of the more successful aspects of Coventry City's first full season under the stewardship of Tony Mowbray last campaign was his astute use of the loan market.

The former Celtic and Middlesbrough boss strengthened his squad to a greater extent than his limited League One budget would usually allow.

However despite the good form of the likes of Adam Armstrong and Jacob Murphy, it wasn't enough to clinch promotion for the Sky Blues, after they finished 8th following a horror second half of the season.

As Mowbray rebuilds for another push, loanees will become equally important again, and 4 are already at the club in Lewis Page, Chris McCann, Dan Aygei and Jack McBean.

More will almost certainly arrive due to the current lack of strength in depth at the club, and may have an important role to play throughout the season.

With this in mind, FLW's Tom Percival looks at FOUR potential loan signings that would fit in perfectly at the Ricoh Arena...

1) Adam Le Fondre

For the past few years, Le Fondre has generally been regarded as one of the most clinical strikers in the Football League, but in recent months has fallen out of favour at Cardiff City and is finding first-team minutes difficult to come by.

Although Championship clubs may be interested, Coventry could have a chance of bringing in the striker and making a real statement of intent to the rest of the League One.

There is a clear lack of goals in this current Sky Blues side, they have failed to register a single strike in their first 3 league games. Aygei may go some way to addressing that, but Le Fondre would be a magnificent acquisition.

2) Gaël Bigirimana

Bigirimana is a name familiar to all Sky Blues fans, having come through the academy at the club and having a loan spell at the Ricoh Arena last season.

Although he wasn't overly successful upon his return, there were glimpses to suggest that Bigirimana could be a real asset with a little more confidence.

Seemingly surplus to requirements at Newcastle United, 'Bigi' may wish to return home once again, and if Mowbray takes the risk he could be a real asset to any potential promotion push.

3) Baily Cargill

Cargill is another player who was on loan at the Sky Blues last campaign, but never really got the opportunity to show what he was truly capable of.

Injury cut the loan stint short after a couple of appearances, meaning the Bournemouth defender didn't get the amount of first team experience Eddie Howe would have liked him to have done.

Subsequently a loan may be on the cards once more, and a return to the Sky Blues could suit all involved. Mowbray will still be looking at defensive reinforcements and Cargill would fit into his passing style of play perfectly.

4) Pablo Maffeo

The Spanish right-back is a promising prospect of the Manchester City academy, and after having a loan spell at Girona last campaign, City may wish to test him in the rigours of English football.

The Sky Blues have so far opted for a 3-4-3 formation, so as a wing back, Maffeo would be able to show his attacking prowess to full effect.

Coventry need cover in the right wing-back position, and with first-team football not looking likely at the Etihad Stadium, Mowbray may be wise to enquire about the players ability. If he can handle the physicality of League 1, he would almost certainly be an impressive addition.
