Sky Bet Championship club Nottingham Forest are very much in a transitional period, with new boss Philippe Montanier adjusting to life in the second tier of English football.

The Frenchman checked in at the City Ground during the summer and has collected two wins and a defeat from his three games in all competitions so far.

Friday night’s 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion offered an indication that the Reds still have lots of work to do under their new manager, although some of the things on display at the AMEX Stadium were positive.

Forest are blessed with some top talent and with some more additions in the right areas the club could still ensure that the 2016/17 campaign is a successful one.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at four loan players who would be perfect loan signings for Nottingham Forest, ahead of the transfer window closing at the end of the month.

Sam Johnstone

The young Manchester United goalkeeper is held in high regard by the Red Devils but with first-team chances limited at the moment a loan move could be on the horizon.

Following the departure of the solid Dorus de Vries, Forest are desperately keen to add another stopper to their ranks and Johnstone could be one to consider for the Reds.

The 23-year-old boasts Championship experience following loan spells with Doncaster Rovers and Preston North End and he would be a quality addition for Forest, who currently have just Stephen Henderson as their only established custodian.

Matt Miazga

The American defender signed for Chelsea last season but is unlikely to break through into the first-team under Antonio Conte during 2016/17.

Although he is highly-rated a loan move away from Stamford Bridge could be on the cards, with the Championship a likely destination for the 21-year-old.

Forest aren’t exactly short of central defenders in their ranks but after conceding seven goals from three games thus far, Philippe Montanier could be tempted to add another centre-back to his squad.

Nelson Oliveira

The former Forest loan star has been made available for transfer by his current club Benfica, with his future at the Portuguese giants looking bleak.

Benfica are keen to sell but if the club do not have a potential suitor then they could opt to loan the striker out again, with Forest the ideal location for Oliveira.

The ex-Swansea City man adhered himself to the Forest faithful last season with a series of hard working displays and a return to the City Ground would no doubt delight the club’s supporters.

Sheyi Ojo

The Liverpool winger is seemingly out of favour under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and a loan move away from the Premier League club would be beneficial for all parties.

The 19-year-old speed merchant boasts Championship experience after loan spells with Wigan Athletic and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It would not do the youngster any good at all playing for the development squads at Liverpool all season and with Forest needing a winger Ojo could be a potential loan signing for the club.
