Leeds and Manchester United are historic rivals and clearly, it is a big deal when a player decides to cross the Pennines and switch allegiances between the two.

Unfortunately for the former, they are more often than not on the losing side of such transactions. Eric Cantona. Alan Smith. The less said about Danny Pugh the better.

Such is the nature of their vastly contrasting fortunes in recent years, the Whites have been left behind by their bitter rivals.

The Red Devils boast one of the best squads in Europe (though it may not feel like it right now), though that is not to say there isn't talent plying its trade at Elland Road right now that could fit in at Old Trafford.

With lower league scouting all the rage in the Premier League, United would be well advised to cast their glances across to Yorkshire in an effort to pick up the next Dele Alli.

Lewis Cook

The headline name is Lewis Cook. Having recently been awarded the Football League Young Player of the Year award previously won by Alli, Fabian Delph and Gareth Bale, interest in the 19-year old is staring to mount.

A player of enormous potential, the combative central midfielder can follow in the footsteps of the likes of Delph and James Milner by becoming a Premier League regular.

He's got an energetic dynamism to be marvelled and will no doubt mature into a player of immense ability.

Charlie Taylor

Though Luke Shaw was showing the sort of form that made him a £27m player before his cruel injury, there are no guarantees the England man will return to his best form.

The club must have a contingency plan beyond the realms of Marcos Rojo.

Moving for Whites ace Charlie Taylor, who has excelled in recent weeks, could represent an adequate backup to the former Saints starlet.

Aaron Cresswell has been a wonderful addition to West Ham after moving from the Championship and Taylor, in many ways, represents a similar sort of deal.

Alex Mowatt

Like Cook and previously Sam Byram, Alex Mowatt has come through the club's academy.

The 21-year old is another one for the future, though his power and pace could serve him well in the top tier more instantly thank you might think.

In stark contrast to the £25m flop that is Memphis Depay, Mowatt can float across the frontline with urgency before causing damage with his bags of quality on the ball.

Giuseppe Bellusci

Giuseppe Bellusci

As badly as Louis van Gaal has performed this season, the Dutchman has no doubt had to contend with a huge amount of injuries.

Particularly in defence, where the multitude of Herculean efforts from Chris Smalling have been undermined by the sheer amount of ailments dogging the backline.

In a season where Wes Morgan, unheralded during his Championship days, has emerged as a top class Premier League centre-half - United would be well advised to scour the second tier for effective backups.

Italian star Giuseppe Bellusci has largely been excellent since arriving at Leeds almost two years ago and is said to have attracted interest from abroad.

In terms of a backup option, the 26-year old would be a solid one.
