With Garry Monk taking the reigns at Leeds United, he will step back into management for only his second managerial role.

After making a decent fist of things with Swansea City, Monk was relieved of his duties last season amid controversy, with some Swans fans thinking he deserved longer to prove himself and build on the foundations he was building.

He was moved on though, and has waited patiently for another solid offer from the game, finally agreeing to take on the Leeds United manager role under controversial owner Massimo Cellino.

There is already plenty of speculation surrounding who Monk will keep and who he might look to sign, but there is certainly going to be some movement at Elland Road in the summer when it comes to the playing staff.

With this in mind, FLW writer Lee Connor takes a look at FOUR players Garry Monk needs to sell to move the club forward.....

Giuseppe Bellusci

Giuseppe Bellusci

One player at Leeds who divides opinion is Italian defender Bellusci, who on his day looks a defensive rock, but one other occasions looks clumsy and costly at the back.

Garry Monk might want to build a new defence for himself, and may well see Bellusci as someone he can get a fee for, meaning funds to reinvest in the first team.

The defender has never quite got some fans back onside since missing the away game at Charlton a few seasons ago through apparent injury, and it is these fans who you would expect to be happy for Bellusci to be moved on.

Lee Erwin

The Scottish striker was signed from Motherwell with a weight of expectation he would be the answer to some of the clubs goalscoring problems.

However, it has not quite happened for Erwin and there would be no surprise to many at Elland Road if he was moved on, with a return to Scotland the most likely destination should he move.

He is though still young enough to develop, and Monk might well see that. Equally, Monk may also think he needs someone who is good to go now,  meaning Erwin could well be surplus to requirements.

Casper Sloth

Another signing from a few seasons ago who promised lots but has delivered little, it would be no surprise to anyone to see Sloth moved on by Monk.

The Danish midfielder will more than likely see himself moved on back to his homeland, where he might well rediscover some form and put his career back on track.

Still in his twenties, he is capable of at least building a career for himself, but while ever he is at Leeds and isn't playing, he is going to struggle to develop.

Lewis Cook

A controversial pick, but there are good reasons as to why Cook could well be moved on by Monk.

For one, fees of around £10m are being touted about for the youngster, funds which are enough to build a quality side in the Championship with the correct investment.

Secondly, it removes the cloud around the club each transfer window, with rumours galore surrounding Cook, it may well affect his performances if he has his head turned by Premier League interest.

Make what you will of suggesting Cook as one to leave, but there are certainly benefits to seeing him moved on for the Elland Road club.
