Birmingham City can look forward to another season in the Championship after Lee Bowyer's heroics since arriving in March.

A League Cup winner with the club in 2011, Bowyer arrived from Charlton Athletic two months ago to replace Aitor Karanka, who had guided the Blues into perilous danger with the threat of League One football a very realistic possibility.

Five wins in eight games though under Bowyer's leadership meant danger was averted and it seems like there's a very happy camp at St Andrew's for the first time in a while.

Fans probably aren't still best pleased though with the ownership situation at the club and it remains to be seen whether any money is spent this summer, with the club splashing out £2 million on Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove in January.

Work definitely needs to be done though before the start of next season to ensure that the Blues aren't in a relegation battle again and that they're in the top half of the table - let's look at some transfer dealings that could occur in the near future at the club.

Birmingham do seem pretty stocked when it comes to striking options, but it doesn't mean they still can't add to them.

They haven't exactly been prolific this season and whilst Sam Cosgrove was added in January, he hasn't really had the chance to make an impression.

In the January window the Blues also went for Kevin Nisbet of Hibernian, who had made the step up to the Scottish Premiership from the division above with ease but they failed to meet Hibs' asking price.

Nisbet has continued to score goals since and with the revelation that the club may have to sell one of their star players this summer, a deal to take the 24-year-old to the Midlands could be back on.

Big things were expected of Halilovic earlier in his career but he's failed to live up to the hype, which is why he ended up at Birmingham earlier this season after his A.C. Milan contract was terminated.

Some expected the Croatian to come in and take the Championship by storm - he hasn't quite done that but on occasion he has shown flashes of his quality.

Halilovic has been in and out of the team with little nagging injuries over the course of the season which has restricted him to just 17 league appearances and one goal, and having only signed a contract until the end of the current campaign his future is up in the air.

If you believe a 'family friend' of the player then his deal has already been extended, but nothing has been confirmed yet and until it does then his Blues future remains in limbo.

An interesting link emerged last week as both Birmingham and Huddersfield were named as potential destinations for Flamengo teenager Lazaro by O Dia back in Brazil.

The winger played twice in Brazil's top flight last season but aside from that little is known about the 19-year-old, although he is an under-17 international for his country.

It does seem quite a random link for someone who has hardly played any senior football for his club, but they won't have just plucked the names out of nowhere - there could be some serious interest there.

Bringing in a potential wonderkid from South America would really excite Birmingham fans and after they've been named as potential suitors, we'll just have to wait and see as to whether a move is made.

It looks like the end of the road at St Andrew's for Toral, whose year at the club has been blighted by injury.

That's been a problem for the Spaniard for a few years now - before moving to the Blues he had made just 22 league appearances for Hull spanning the previous two seasons and he only got on the pitch 16 times for Birmingham, scoring twice against Reading back in December.

The talent is there but spending too much time in the treatment room means that it's unlikely that the former Arsenal man will get a new deal, and he's going to have to prove his fitness to another club should he find one this summer.

There's always gems to be found in Leagues One and Two for Championship club, and a player who has had to drop to that level to find some regular minutes is Jordan Graham.

Graham has struggled with injuries in recent years and it ruined his time at Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he made just 14 league appearances in five years.

He's found a new home at Gillingham now though, putting injury issues behind him to fire in 12 league goals from the wing this season.

That's led to transfer interest from the Blues according to FLW sources, and with Graham's contract situation being unclear he could be available for a relatively cheap price for a double-figure scorer in League One.

A much-maligned figure amongst fans, Clayton's time at St Andrew's could very well be up.

Clayton made just 14 appearances this season as he joined forces with Aitor Karanka once again, but it's clear to see that the 32-year-old isn't the same player he once was.

The midfielder hasn't been in a single Lee Bowyer squad - whether that's because he's unfancied or he's injured is a mystery - but he definitely needs to be improved upon this summer.

The only issue is that Clayton is probably on a decent wage and has a year left on his contract so he could be hard to shift, so that could be a problem for the club.

Birmingham were one of a number of teams linked with Paterson a couple of weeks ago by Football Insider, and if they do go in for him they're likely to face stiff competition.

But what Paterson provides is a lot of versatility - he can play in the number 10, out wide and even a little deeper in central midfield, and those are areas that Bowyer needs to address this summer.

Injury has restricted the 29-year-old to just 20 Championship appearances this past season but he had a good start to the campaign with Bristol City and if he can stay fit, he would be a really useful asset to the Blues should he be targeted.

There was lots of excitement when Crowley joined Birmingham in 2019 after a stint in Holland - he was highly-rated as a youngster at Arsenal but never really lived up to his full potential.

That was the case at St. Andrew's as well - the midfielder played 38 times in his debut season but seemed to be out of favour under Aitor Karanka, and in the January transfer window he was shipped out on loan to League One side Hull City.

Crowley played 22 times for the Tigers but most of those appearances were from the bench and it remains to be seen whether they pursue a permanent move for him, but if they don't it still looks likely that he will be exiting with his contract set to expire with Birmingham this summer unless the club exercise their option to extend.
