Despite earning a creditable goalless draw with Norwich City on Tuesday evening, the Tigers are in the mire and face a harsh winter battling it out at the foot of the table.
Nigel Adkins’ men occupy the final relegation zone after 19 matches, and they are without a win in three.
The weekend saw them easily dispatched by in-form Nottingham Forest before the midweek stalemate with the league leaders.
Things are far from serene at the KCOM stadium with six games ahead of them before the turn of the year to try and pull away from the relegation places.
One standout reason why the Tigers find themselves where they are is their extreme lack of depth the side has.
There was an absence of any real experience on the bench in Tuesday’s draw with the Canaries - a bench that had a total of 15 Championship appearances, with defender Jordy de Wins having 14 of those.
Adkins named three academy products for the match and no viable option to alter the game from the substitutes he had to pick from.
Along with injuries and suspension, it has significantly highlighted how thin the Hull squad is being stretched.
With that said, here are four free agents that can fix the Tigers’ alarming lack of depth.
With over 300 first-team appearances and countless international caps, the 35-year-old boasts a tonne of experience and is still a free agent since leaving West Ham in the summer.
Beggars can’t be choosers in Hull’s situation, and Nigel Adkins should look to move for the unattached player as a matter of urgency.
Even if he is not fit enough to play regularly, his help in and around the club and on the training pitch will be no end of support.
Having possibly been waiting for a move to a club that was either in the Premier League or pushing for promotion from the Championship, the 34-year-old German remains without a club.
And Hull should be the team to rid him of time out of the game as they look to not only add strength in depth but decrease the number of goals they are conceding.
Not scoring enough goals means their goal difference is under pressure and they could do with a player of Huth’s ilk to aid them through the rest of the campaign.
Goals have been a problem, and although not prolific, Gabby Agbonlahor is without a club having trained with Celtic in the summer and is capable of finding the back of the net.
Being without a club means the former Aston Villa man can’t be too picky if a team comes calling.
And to add more experience in the side, Nigel Adkins could potentially turn to the man known for his explosive pace to try and ease the Tigers’ relegation fears.
A powerful striker, Victor Anichebe is without a club since leaving Beijing Enterprises in 2017.
Still only 30-years-old, the attacker has struggled to settle at a team and perform consistently well.
His last stint in England was with Sunderland, and he could be called in from the wilderness by Nigel Adkins to help with the goals department as well as adding more depth to a side lacking it.
Even for the short term, it would be a deal that would be mostly inexpensive and could help both parties out.
