Lee Johnson and his Bristol City side have made a strong start to their league campaign this season, and with the Robins just three points off a play-off place, the club's supporters will be dreaming of winning promotion to the Premier League.

They will be hoping they can go one step further this season as they were well in the hunt for the play-offs last season but struggled towards the end of their league campaign.

Johnson's side travel to face relegation-threatened Reading at the weekend, where they will be hoping to keep the pressure on the teams currently in the play-off places.

The likes of Josh Brownhill, Niclas Eliasson and Tomas Kalas have all impressed for Johnson's side this season and they will be hoping to build on those excellent starts for the rest of the season.

But who should Johnson be looking at from the free-agent market to bolster his squad?

Find out here....

Halford was most recently at Cardiff City, but left the club after his contract expired in their promotion year last season.

He is a versatile player that can play in defence or in midfield and would be a good option to have in the Bristol City squad.

The former Leicester defender would be an excellent addition to Johnson's side as he would add experience and depth to a young Bristol City side.

At the age of 34, he certainly still has a couple of seasons left in him, and he could be tempted to step down to the Championship in order to find regular game time after an injury hit season last year.

The experienced Northern Irish international has been without a club since he left Derby at the end of last season.

Baird would be a useful option to have and would provide good cover as he can play across the defence.

The former Cardiff and Blackburn midfielder would certainly be worth a punt for Lee Johnson's side.

Whittingham has a vast amount of experience playing in the Championship and could be the creative spark that Bristol City need to force themselves into the play-offs this season.

At the age of 34, there may be questions about his fitness, but his technical ability is still one of the best in the Championship.
