Daniel Stendel has enjoyed a decent start to life as Barnsley manager with Tykes currently nicely poised for an assault on the automatic promotion places.

They currently sit in fourth place behind Sunderland, Peterborough United and Portsmouth, five points off the automatic promotion.

Kieffer Moore, Brad Potts, Mamadou Thiam and George Moncur are just some of the players to have shone in the German's free-flowing attacking side this season.

Moore has seven league goals in the clubs opening 15 matches with Potts also picking up five for himself as Alex Mowatt and Cameron McGeehan continue to impress in midfield.

With two losses in their last three matches however it is clear that there is still work to do.

As such, Stendel may be having a little look into the free-agent pool that remains available to see if there are any bargains with which he can improve his squad.

Here are four that are still available for them...

It is a bit of an optimistic shout, but if there is one thing that Barnsley lack at the moment it is experience.

Johnson offers that in bucket loads and could be a very shrewd addition.

Some more competition in attack can't be a bad thing.

Agbonlahor is an experienced striker who would offer something different to the youthful exuberance of Moore and Thiam.

He is currently training with Villa but could be worth contacting.

Dean Smith is yet to make a decision as to whether he will sign the experienced defender or not and a firm offer from Barnsley could turn his head.

The Tykes certainly are not lacking in creative flair, but there is no harm adding to it some more.

Whittingham may be ageing now, but his left foot remains one of the Football League's most lethal weapons and could be well worth bringing to Oakwell.
