The transfer window has closed, but there is still scope to agree deals with free agents who are still able to move freely without restriction.

Jack Ross has had to be active this summer since his arrival at the club in order to overhaul the playing staff from the team that conceded a double relegation, to the bringing in of fresh faces to hopefully change the Black Cats’ fortunes.

Sunderland have started off the season well, still unbeaten and currently fourth in League One.

The season is still only six games old, so there might be a nagging doubt in any manager’s head that they still need a few additions, and the unattached market is the only way forward from now until January.

Short-term deals are there to be had as well as more extended contracts should the player be deemed worthy of one.

With that said, there are four free agents available to Sunderland that’d be really useful signings.

The former Arsenal and Ipswich Town attacker is without a club, and he would be a useful addition to Jack Ross’ side.

JET, as he is known, has pace, power and swift feet. He would be a real threat in League One.

Even if Ross utilised the attacker as an impact substitute, it could well have the desired effect going forward.

Emmanuel-Thomas would be a useful option for the Sunderland boss to have in his ranks heading into the busy winter period.

Adam Hammill has been training with Scunthorpe United, but as of yet, there has been no deal agreed.

He would be the perfect addition to Jack Ross’ side. His delivery was one of the main reasons Barnsley were promoted three years ago and had been a vital part of their team while in the Championship.

Sunderland have ambitions of getting back to the Championship, and Hammill would have too.

A useful addition should Ross decide to go for the clinical wide-man.

A little outlandish in terms of the division he would be playing at, but if James Collins were to move to League One and ply his trade with Sunderland, it would be a great signing.

His experience would be invaluable to a young side, and add reliability and stability to a Black Cats’ defence that has so far been hard to beat.

Jack Ross should look into trying to seduce the defender to the Stadium of Light despite second-tier interest.

At 31-years-old, his pace is still undeniable and would offer invaluable experience that young Josh Maja would be able to call upon.

It would be a useful deal until the end of the season, for both club and player with promotion to the Championship the aim.

Despite not being good enough for the second-tier anymore, a drop to League One would be perfect for the veteran forward who, if he finds form, could be a shrewd free signing for Jack Ross if he were to pursue a deal for the former Aston Villa man.
