Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping to continue their fine run of form as they prepare to host Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls, after a sluggish start to the season, has responded well, and are on a run of three successive league victories.

Jos Luhukay's men sit 11th in the Championship table, after three wins, one draw and two defeats, and will be fancying their chances against a Stoke side out of form and out of confidence on Saturday afternoon.

Luhukay came under criticism in the summer after a quiet transfer window, in which the Owls brought only three new players into the club, which could come back to haunt them in the long term.

The window is of course open for clubs to sign free agents however, and here, we take a look at four players available that would be useful signings for Wednesday...

Having conceded in every league game so far this season, the signing of James Collins could have a huge impact in shoring up the Owls' defence.

Collins, who departed West Ham United in the summer, has been subject to strong interest from Aston Villa and Ipswich Town, and has been training with the latter for over a week now.

Luhukay should definitely look to join the race to sign the 35-year old however, as he would bring much needed experience, and a commanding presence to the Wednesday back line following the departure of captian Glenn Loovens in the summer.

If Villa or Ipswich do beat the Owls to the signing of Collins, then they should look no further than Robert Huth.

A proven Premier League player, the German defender departed Leicester City in the summer after a fine spell with the Foxes, and would again bring a commanding, experienced to a fragile Wednesday defence

To add to their midfield of talented players such as Barry Bannan and Kieran Lee, perhaps Wednesday could take a risk and go out to sign Karl Henry.

The midfielder was a key asset for Bolton Wanderers last term as they survived relegation by the skin of their teeth, and could some experience and bite into the Wednesday midfield.

Sako has been a free agent ever since his departure from Crystal Palace last term, and he should be on the radar of many Championship managers following his departure from Selhurst Park last season.

The 30-year old still has a lot to offer despite not playing as much for the Eagles, and if they get him back to full fitness, then Sako could be one of the better players in the Championship, and would also be a key asset for the Owls if they managed to lure him to Hillsborough.
