Cardiff City will be looking to continue their unbeaten start to life under new boss Neil Harris when they make the difficult trip to face fellow play-off contenders Brentford at Griffin Park this evening.

The Bluebirds looked destined for a relegation battle towards the end of Neil Warnock's reign at the club, but the Welsh side have been reinvigorated following Harris' arrival as they are now aiming for their fourth straight win under the 42-year-old.

Their impressive run of form has seen them climb up to eighth in the Championship table, and a number of players seeing their performances benefit from Harris' arrival, with this including the likes of Aden Flint, Lee Tomlin and Gary Madine.

However, despite his strong start, it seems likely the Cardiff boss will be looking to streamline his squad in the January transfer window in order to make room for incomings, and this could leave a number of players facing uncertain futures at the club.

Here are four players who could be on the move in January...

Matt Connolly

Connolly has certainly made a big contribution since arriving at the club in 2012, but he has now not made a league appearance since the 2017/18 season, and Cardiff fans would be forgiven for forgetting he still even plays for the club.

The defender underwent fresh surgery over the summer to help solve his fitness troubles, but it seems highly unlikely there will be a place for him in the side when he does make a full recovery, and a move away from the club would be best for him.

At the age of 32, Connolly is not getting any younger and he now needs a move to get his career back on track.

Omar Bogle

Harris currently has a significant number of strikers to choose from when they are all fit and, while Bogle has been used intermittently this term, he could be the first one heading for the exit door in January.

The likes of Robert Glatzel, Danny Ward and Gary Madine now look all set to be kept on by the club following their recent contributions, which makes Bogle one of the prime candidates to be put up for sale next month.

The fact Bogle has been unable to make much of an impact during his limited game time this season further suggests a move could be in the best interest of both club and player.

Will Vaulks

Vaulks was signed by Cardiff from Rotherham over the summer, but he has so far failed to establish himself in the Bluebirds' midfield, and this could create uncertainty surrounding his short-term future with Euro 2020 approaching.

The Wales international will be keen to earn a place in Ryan Giggs' side for next summer's tournament, but the only way he will be able to achieve this is by playing regular football, and this may not be a guarantee at Cardiff.

Therefore, we could see Vaulks leave on a loan deal in January. It would be a big surprise to see him leave on a permanent basis, but a loan does not seem out the question.

Alex Smithies

Smithies was signed by Cardiff over the summer to provide competition for Neil Etheridge between the sticks, and he enjoyed a prolonged stint in the side earlier this campaign due to Etheridge's injury suffered on the opening day.

However, Etheridge regained his place in the side after recovering from his injury, and it appears unlikely that he will now oust the Philippines international from Harris' starting line-up anytime soon.

Therefore, the Bluebirds should probably be looking to re-coup some of the transfer fee they received for Smithies by offloading him in January, as he needs to be playing first-team football and Cardiff have Joe Day who can act as back-up to Etheridge.
