A summer of re-building is due at the Welsh capital as Cardiff City produced another average season in the Championship - finishing in a disappointing 8th position.

Vincent Tan set out his realistic targets for Russell Slade at the start of season to guide the club to a top six finish.

A play-off challenge was mounted and maintained right up until the penultimate weekend, but it was a lack of away wins and a regular goal scorer that eventually cost them.

Inevitably, Russell Slade was relieved of his duties at the club, as the Bluebirds supporters were never truly convinced of his managerial abilities.

The new head coach Paul Trollope will have to get off to a good start next term in order to appease those fans questioning his appointment.

The former Wales coach will be familiar with his surroundings that will indicate what players he would like to keep and which ones he will push out of the exit door.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies FOUR players that new boss Paul Trollope must sell for the club to move forward:

Kagischo Dikgacoi

Kagisho Dikgacoi

Cardiff City's planning for next season can begin in earnest and one of the players who has been truly disappointing during his time in South Wales is Kagischo Dikgacoi.

When Cardiff signed him, then Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis said he would have kept him had the offer not been so financially significant.

However with just 25 appearances last year, he has nothing to show for it, as his impact has not been as big as first hoped.

Adam Le Fondre

The Welsh side needed firepower up front and that was evident throughout last season. However the club had plenty of strikers that were sent out on loan, as they could not deliver goals.

One of these strikers who came to Cardiff with a big reputation was Adam Le Fondre.

He has a formidable goal record in the Football League, but has really struggled during his time at the Cardiff City Stadium.

He is likely to be moved on, with Championship clubs expected to make a move due to his reputation.

Federico Macheda

The former Manchester United striker’s career has not panned out quite as well as he would have hoped.

When he scored a sublime winner against Aston Villa those many years ago, the footballing world witnessed a player for the future.

However, Macheda has not convinced the Bluebirds supporters at all due to an underwhelming season.

He was sent out on loan in March to Nottingham Forest to re-ignite his performances, but failed to impress at the City Ground.

Macheda’s time is up in South Wales and he needs to be moved on.

Matthew Kennedy

Matthew Kennedy

It may be time to bring an end to the Bluebirds career of young gun Matty Kennedy. He made a real impression in his opening appearances, but failed to kick on and has fallen out of favour at the club.

The winger was sent on loan to Port Vale to gain some first team experience and was told that if he impressed, then he would have a chance next season in the first team.

After initially impressing at the League One side, Kennedy mainly featured on the bench and never did enough to impress Port Vale boss, Robert Page.

Kennedy will be regarded as Cardiff’s ‘dead wood’ and should be moved on from the club.
