The countdown to Christmas is well and truly on, with a packed programme of fixtures over the festive period, but before it all kicks off, here we look at the four biggest EFL stories of the day.........

Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi will be looking to add fire-power to his squad in January, with Southampton's Che Adams and Brighton's Glenn Murray on his wish-list, according to a report in the Athletic.

Adams has struggled to force his way into Ralf Hasenhuttl’s struggling Saints side this season while Murray has found his opportunities limited in recent weeks under Graham Potter.

The expected race to snap of Hull City winger Jarrod Bowen in the January transfer window has got underway, with West Brom planning to submit a £15m bid for Bowen, as Sabri Lamouchi looks to boost his Forest front-line of Lewis Grabban and Rafa Mir, according to a report on Football Insider.

The winger, 22, has been linked with a move away from Hull for some time with the likes of Newcastle and Leicester City known to be admirers of a player who has scored 17 goals in 23 matches in all competitions this season.

Leeds United loanee Eddie Nketiah looks like he isn't going anywhere in January and looks likely to see out his season on-loan at Elland Road, after Sun journalist Alan Nixon reported via Twitter that "Nketiah should be staying at Leeds. Arsenal ok with it. Think player ok with it too."

Nketiah has struggled to break into the Whites starting XI being used mainly from the bench in his 15 appearances in all competitions, but that does not seem to be a problem with the Gunners for now.

Burnley are planning to raid the Championship during the January transfer window with the Daily Mail reporting that Charlton Athletic’s Conor Gallagher and Bristol City’s Josh Brownhill are targets for Sean Dyche’s side.

The Clarets have a fine track record when it comes to snapping up players from the second tier, handing the likes of Chris Wood, James Tarkowski and Nick Pope their big break in the Premier League in recent years.
