The weekend's EFL fixtures get's underway tonight with Hull City's trip to Charlton Athletic, but before we kick-off here we pause briefly to consider the four biggest EFL stories of the day.........

Stoke City and Cardiff City look like going head-to-head in the race to sign Barnsley midfielder Cameron McGeehan, a source close to the player has exclusively confirmed to Football League World’s Chief Editor Sam Rourke.

The former Luton Town man was a key part of the Barnsley side that won automatic promotion to the Championship under Daniel Stendel last season, and this season has scored twice in twelve league appearances in the English second tier.

Fulham, Derby County and Middlesbrough are all plotting to sign winger Jack Clarke in the January transfer window, as Leeds United face up to losing the Spurs loanee after a disappointing loan spell at Elland Road.

The 19-year-old looks set to be recalled by his parent club, having failed to tie down a regular spot in Marcelo Bielsa's side this season, after being loaned straight back to Leeds following his transfer to north London in the summer.

West Brom are yet to receive a fee from Catalan giants Barcelona for their summer deal for England youth international Louie Barry, with ESPN reporting that the Catalan giants are happy for the case to be settled by FIFA.

As per FIFA regulations, the champions of La Liga should have had to pay a compensation fee of around €130k to the English club relating to development and coaching, but the Midlands club have not received it despite the deal being concluded in July.

Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate is probably counting down the hours until the January transfer window opens, after a poor first half of the season that sees Boro down in 20th place in the Championship table.

Woodgate knows that attacking options will be a priority in January and to that end the club are considering a bid for Peterborough United front-man Marcus Maddison, according to a report on Football Insider, after scoring 10 goals and getting eight assists in 20 games so far this season.
