Barnsley have named Wolfsberger AC boss Gerhard Struber as their new head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract, it has been confirmed on the club website.

The 42-year-old guided the Austrian club to a third-place finish in his home country's top tier last term, qualifying for the Europa League.

The Tykes, who parted company with Daniel Stendel last month, are without a win since the opening weekend of the season and bottom of the Championship.

Charlton’s club director Steve Gallen has stated that Lee Bowyer is desperate for a long-term contract at the club claiming in a Charlton Q&A he feels Bowyer needs stability and that it would be the best option to give Bowyer a long-term contract at the club.

Bowyer is still on a rolling one-year contract ,but owner Roland Dutchatelet refuses to give him a long-term deal due to the fact that he feels it may stall any potential buyers, this is because of the compensation that a new owner would have to pay Bowyer if they were to decide that they were going to bring in their own people to the club.

Speaking at the Q&A  Gallen said: “Lee’s contract is up in the summer and he needs to be given a longer contract. He needs to be given some type of stability. We’re desperate for it. Lee really wants that.

Liverpool are “genuinely interested” in Leeds United centre-back Ben White, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

The former Yorkshire Evening Post reporter has claimed via The Athletic’s website that Manchester United have also scouted the 22-year-old defender, who is currently on a season-long loan at Elland Road from Premier League club Brighton.

Leeds United playmaker Pablo Hernandez has signed a new contract until the end of the 2021-22 campaign, it has been confirmed on the club website.

The former Spain international, 34, has scored 29 goals in 132 appearances for Leeds since initially joining the Championship side on loan in 2016.

Ex-Swansea and Valencia man Hernandez scored in Leeds' opening two games this season but has not started a game since September because of injury.
