With the international break virtually over, it is full steam ahead towards a full programme of EFL fixtures at the weekend.

Here we highlight the four biggest EFL stories of the day.......

Barnsley are close to appointing current Wolfsberger AC boss Gerhard Struber as their new permanent manager in the next few days, according to German media outlet Kleine Zeitung. as the Tykes look to replace Daniel Stendel who was sacked back in October.

Barnsley are currently under the stewardship of caretaker manager Adam Murray and are bottom of the Championship with only one league win all season, ahead of their weekend trip to Blackburn Rovers.

Grimsby Town could turn to one of their own as they look to appoint a replacement to Michael Jolley who was sacked last week, with former Mariners defender Danny Butterfield a name who has applied for the vacancy, according to a report on Football Insider.

Butterfield's 488 game career started at Blundell Park back in 1997, with the 39-year-old going onto play for Crystal Palace, Charlton, Southampton, Bolton, Carlisle and Exeter City.

Manchester United are just one of a number of Premier League sides believed to be interested in signing 19-year-old Reading striker Danny Loader, according to a report on Sky Sports.

Loader is out of contract next summer and apparently talks on a new deal have stalled with the Royals and United are interested in signing the former England youth player, who has made six first-team appearances this season.

Stoke City and Cardiff City are just two of the clubs reported on TEAMtalk to be interested in signing Celtic winger Jonny Haynes, who has become an important part of Neil Lennon's side at Celtic Park this season.

The Bhoys are trying to tie the 32-year-old to a new deal, but with a number of clubs interested, the Republic of Ireland international is considering his options.
