24 hours can be a long-time in football and if the last 24 hours is anything to go by plenty can happen, with managers sacked or on the verge of the chop, to speculation as to who could be moving where in the managerial merry-go-round.

Against this backdrop we look at the four biggest EFL stories from the last 24 hours.....

Jack Ross has been sacked as manager of League One club Sunderland, after defeat at the weekend to Lincoln City left the Black Cats sixth in the table after 11 games of the season played.

Ross took over at the Stadium of Light in May of last year and led them to the finals of the EFL Trophy and League One play-offs last season, losing to Portsmouth and Charlton respectively.

Barnsley have parted company with head coach Daniel Stendel following a run of 10 Championship games without a win, with the Tykes in 23rd place in the table, with only one league win all season, a 1-0 opening day victory over Fulham.

The 45-year-old German took charge at Oakwell in June 2018 and led the Tykes to promotion from League One in his first season in English football.

The Jose Gomes era at Reading has come to an end after only 10 months at the club.

Former Stoke City boss Mark Hughes heads the betting to be the next manger at the Madejski Stadium in a list that includes Phil Parkinson, Daniel Stendel, Chris Hughton and Graeme Murty.

Leeds United are interested in taking Steven Gerrard to Elland Road should Marcelo Bielsa leave at the end of the season, according to a report on Football Insider.

The Liverpool legend is currently in charge at Rangers, taking over at Ibrox last year on a four-year deal, but with Leeds United making preparations for life after Bielsa the 39-year-old could be heading down south next season.
