It is a tense time at Oakwell at present as Barnsley see themselves trying to fight their way out of a relegation battle.

Currently sat in the drop zone, Barnsley manager José Morais has got a tough task on his hands.

If the Yorkshire side do suffer the drop in to League One, then they could be looking at a whole new way of summer recruitment - through their own academy.

We take a look at four Barnsley wonderkids who could really fit in that starting eleven next season...

Striker Victor Adeboyejo has yet to make an appearance since joining from Leyton Orient in November.

The 20-year-old forward made 14 appearances last season for Orient in League Two, before making a big jump up to the Championship with Barnsley.

The Nigerian forward was subject to Premier League interest before making the move to Oakwell, and is currently the top scorer amongst the under-23s squad whilst he fights for a first team start.

Jacob Brown was banging goals for fun at under-23s level for Barnsley, so much so that he earnt himself a loan move away to Chesterfield in January. The 19-year-old who celebrates his 20th birthday later this month, has made a handful of appearances in League Two for Chesterfield already.

Brown is yet to get his Football League goal tally off to a start, but if he can continue the form he showed at under-23s level, then it won't be long before he bangs his first goal.

If Brown impresses at Chesterfield for the rest of the season, he could see himself in the frame or leading the line upfront for Barnsley next season - especially as he signed a two-year contract extension back in November!

20-year-old midfielder Dylan Mottley-Henry has played for three different clubs already this season.

Currently on-loan at Chesterfield, along with Barnsley under-23s team-mate Jacob Brown, Mottley Henry started off the season on-loan at Conference side Tranmere Rovers, before returning to Oakwell and even coming off the bench for the first team against Aston Villa in January.

Mottley-Henry is a tricky and skillful winger and will be gagging to break in to the first team when he returns from Chesterfield in the summer.

After a successful trial last year, the youngster joined from Bradford City before being hampered by injury. This season he's making the most of it and racking up that crucial experience before hopefully breaking through in to the first team next season.

Cameron McGeehan is the eldest of our four outlined future prospects.

The 22-year-old celebrates his 23rd birthday this week and will be happy with his progress made during his current loan stint at Scunthorpe United.

McGeehan made a handful of first team appearances earlier on in the season after joining from Luton Town in the summer and featuring in League Two last season, the midfielder even scored his first goal against Middlesboro in October.

Upon his return to Oakwell in the summer, McGeehan will be knocking on Morais' door and demanding a spot in the first team if he continues to impress at Scunthorpe.
