Preparing to play their football in League One next season, Barnsley will be targeting an immediate return to the Championship

The Tykes finished bottom of the second tier pile, losing their last five games to confirm their bottom-placed finish.

With a full summer now to prepare for League One, and a managerial hunt to undergo, the Tykes will be eager for a more positive 2022/23 campaign.

Here, we take a look at four Barnsley transfer matters that the club will have to deal with very soon...

Keeping Romal Palmer

Playing an instrumental part in the club's play-off finish during the 2020/21 season, Romal Palmer is someone who possesses lots of talent.

With a contract that is set to expire next month, the 23-year-old could attract a lot of interest from the Championship.

If the Tykes were able to agree fresh terms with the exciting midfielder next season, that would be a massive boost in the third-tier.

Making a move for Panutche Camara

Barnsley emerged as one of several clubs who had an interest in Plymouth Argyle midfielder Panutche Camara, back during the first half of the campaign.

Set to depart Home Park in the coming weeks, the Tykes may look to swiftly increase their interest in the exciting midfielder.

They will undoubtedly face competition, and that could be from the higher level, but if they act quickly, it could be a deal they could strike.

The immediate future of Michal Helik

Michal Helik is likely to attract lots of interest this summer, with the Poland international impressing in what has been a difficult season for the Tykes.

A defender who dominates his battles, and is capable with the ball at his feet, he is someone who could quite easily be playing in the top end of the Championship next season, or elsewhere in Europe.

He will be coming into the final year of his Barnsley contract this summer, representing an opportunity for the Yorkshire club to generate a fee.

The addition of Ross Sykes

Barnsley have been looking into the possibility of adding Accrington Stanley defender Ross Sykes to their squad.

This appears to be another one that could only really occur if Barnsley move quickly, with Middlesbrough and Millwall also credited with interest during the 2021/22 campaign.

Sykes' defensive competence and his ability to play out from the back has made him an interesting proposition for the three clubs currently in pursuit.
