Garry Monk will be intending to bring in some summer signings in order to help this team progress.

Birmingham are currently three points outside of the relegation places in 20th place.

Therefore, survival is the immediate priority, but Monk was brought in with long-term ambitions in mind considering his reputation at this level.

The Blues squad has areas that need to be improved, which this season has made abundantly clear. Their main issue has been goals with only 32 scored in 42 league games. Burton are the only side worse in this regard and they are bottom of the table.

Monk is also likely to make changes in the summer because this isn't his squad and he will want his imprint over it. These are 3 players who could join Monk's project in the summer...

Bartley worked with Monk at Leeds last season, so they already have a strong understanding. Leeds just missed out on a play-off spot because they finished in seventh after being in the play-offs for most of the season. They only conceded 47 goals which was the fourth lowest in the division

The 26-year-old was on loan from Swansea and he returned to his parent club, but has rarely featured this season. He did have a major injury which ruled him out for a few months. However, he has rarely played since returning with Carlos Carvalhal not convinced.

Therefore, a move to Birmingham would suit him because Monk trusts him and they need another strong defensive presence alongside Harlee Dean. Michael Morrison has underperformed this season even though he is captain, and bringing in Bartley would probably improved Dean's performances as well.

£4.95m-rated Baker is another player who has previously worked with Monk. He joined Middlesbrough on loan at the start of the season, but has rarely played since Monk left.

He did fall out of favour with Monk which saw him dropped from the squad for quite a few games. However, he has shown signs of promise and he could improve this midfield with his intelligence and drive without the Blues having to commit to buying him.

This would be a financially smart investment because he could always add squad depth if Monk didn't feel he deserved a starting place. His innovation and drive would give them an additional threat in central attacking areas.

Fletcher also worked with Monk at Middlesbrough because he was bought from West Ham in the summer. He is similar to Baker in that he fell out of favour, but he would be the ideal striker for Che Adams to work off.

Middlesbrough clearly don't want or need him because he was loaned to Sunderland in January. Therefore, Birmingham could buy him for a cheap price in the summer and use him as a focal point. This would give Adams to space to work in and play for any second balls from Fletcher's aerial duels.

Having another striker would get the best out of Adams and Monk already knows him well. He fits the type of player they need even if he isn't the most prolific.
