4.8 aerials won per game: The Birmingham ace looking to impose himself on Aston Villa

Birmingham City travel to Aston Villa this weekend as they look to derail their promotion plans and boost their own survival hopes.

The men from St. Andrew’s have been in better form of late with them getting some vital wins under their belts and they will have confidence that they can get something from the game on Sunday.

However, they’ll need to be at their best and Sam Gallagher, if he plays, will need to mix it up up front to get the edge over Villa’s centre-halves.

With that in mind, then, our latest FLW Spotlight feature is taking a look at the forward’s campaign so far:

Gallagher, this season, has perhaps not exactly hit the heights expected of him at St. Andrew’s but that can be said for a lot of the Blues players this year.

In recent times, though, things have improved and Gallagher’s six league goals this season isn’t a woeful return when you consider how few goals the Blues have scored this campaign.

Two in his last three shows that he’s feeling more confident now, too, and that should make him a handful this weekend – something he’s always been willing to be even if he’s not been scoring.

Indeed, he is a physical presence that Blues are starting to work off of and with him winning close to five aerials a game, John Terry and James Chester are in for a battle.

Blues won’t have as much of the ball as they’d like in this one, but they’ve seen recently they can fire it into Gallagher and it’ll often stick, so that should give them confidence ahead of kick-off.
