Garry Monk has already instilled a real belief in the St Andrew's faithful that they've turned a corner.

Under Steve Cotterill they were in freefall, destined for trips to Southend and Gillingham.

Cue Garry Monk, sweeping in with his trusted lieutenants and growing reputation.

Two wins from two matches have alleviated the pressure somewhat, placing the power back in their hands for the first time in a long while.

Everyone is looking forward now, no more talk of Zola, Redknapp or Cotterill. It's all about the new journey, the Garry Monk-inspired ride that started with a brave defeat against Cardiff, but will hopefully end with a place in the top six of the Championship next season.

There's no reason why that can't be achieved either.

Birmingham are a huge club with significant pulling power for players at this level.

They shouldn't have been struggling with the bottom feeders this season and with the right recruitment, they won't be next time out.

Here at FLW we've scoured the rumours, the free agents and the old contacts to bring you a list of five players we feel could help fire Birmingham City to the top six next season. Now you just need to hope Garry Monk reads our site because lets face it, when are we ever wrong?

It seems funny, I've just penned a piece highlighting what Leeds need to make it to the top six, now I'm going to suggest Birmingham raid them for one of their crown jewels.

Hernandez is out of contract this summer and although it is thought contract talks have started, Monk will surely be interested in bringing his former Swansea player to St Andrews. Hernandez is a big deal at this level too, he'd be a huge signing for the Blues and one that could help start the revolution.

This is a loan deal I'm going to suggest, but I think they could do worse than speak to Chelsea about former Exeter City defender Ethan Ampadu.

The 17-year old is a massive talent, he helped push Chelsea U21s to the semi-finals of the Checkatrade Trophy and he looked comfortable doing so. He took some a battering from some tough centre forwards, but his composure and strength was evident throughout.

It's unlikely the £4.5m-rated star will play regular football for Chelsea next season, but the boy is Championship quality. Sunderland eyed a move for him in January but it fell through, Birmingham would do well to make sure they are at the front of the queue this summer. It'll only be on loan though, this boy is going right to the top.

Sung-yueng is currently in the Premier League, but that could all be about to change as he's out of contract in the summer.

He's captain of the South Korean national side and is known for his vision, technique, long-range passing and shooting. They're all attributes that would help you to a top six finish, no doubt.

He's worked with Monk before at Swansea and is likely to star in this summer's World Cup. Whilst their might be a bigger move on the cards, Birmingham should go all out to bring him to St Andrews.

There's another kicker to this deal too; Birmingham's owners would surely like to make their investment more marketable in Asia, so what better way than to sign a high-profile Asian footballer? It's a win / win situation all round.

If you're going to finish in the top six, you're going to need goals. Birmingham don't currently have that '20 goal' striker, but if they're willing to spend a bit of money, they could pick up Jack Marriott from Peterborough.

He looks set to end the season closer to 30 than 20, a superb achievement in the modern game. His rise has been astounding, he's found himself the talk of the town in his first season at Peterborough. They've issued the usual rhetoric about him being unavailable, but the truth is money talks. If the Blues can find a couple of million quid laying about, he'd certainly help guarantee a top-six finish.

Colback looks likely to be bombed out of Newcastle this summer and he's been plying his trade at Nottingham Forest for the last few weeks. Any team serious about a top six finish should give him a second look, because Colback in quality.

I'm not sure why Rafa Benitez doesn't fancy the tough tackling midfielder, but he's fitted in really well alongside Ben Watson at the City Ground. He's a fighter, one who you can rely on in the Championship and a vital component of a potential top-six side.
