In terms of matters on the pitch, it is looking good for Leeds United after 10 fixtures of the season. They’re picking up two points per game, which over the course of a 46-game campaign, would see them into the Premier League most years.

Leeds beat West Brom last night to put the weekend’s defeat to Charlton behind them, moving back to the top of the Championship table in the process.

However, an incident from the Charlton clash is hanging over the Whites, with Kiko Casilla set to be under investigation from the FA following claims of racism in an flashpoint involving the goalkeeper and Jonathan Leko.

Recently, we’ve seen Fernando Forestieri land himself in a similar situation, which resulted in a six-game ban, and if Casilla is seen as guilty at the FA, you’d expect a fairly similar punishment heading the way of the Leeds man.

That would leave Marcelo Bielsa in a tough situation, though, with Casilla his only goalkeeper with real senior experience.

So far this season, Kamil Miazek and Illan Meslier have provided cover, with it likely one of that young duo would have to step up and replace Casilla if the worst case scenario develops.

Money would be on the latter, given he was signed to replace Bailey Peacock-Farrell in the summer, but Meslier is still untested in the Championship and has only 28 Ligue 2 appearances under his belt.

However, the 19-year-old has to use any opening – however controversial the circumstance – to grab an opportunity during his season-long loan at Elland Road.

Meslier is highly-rated; he’s valued at £4.5m by transfermarkt, a French under-20 international and has already produced some good performances for Leeds’ youth side, which includes two penalty saves.

Yes, he’s raw, but Meslier will be confident enough in his ability to step in and grab any chance Casilla’s potential punishment presents to him. He will be targeted, but it is often these openings that help develop a player.

Of course, from a team perspective, Meslier will hope Leeds’ No.1 isn’t facing a suspension, but as he’s the man in-line for a chance if Bielsa is dealt such a blow, the Frenchman has got to back his own ability to make sure the Whites aren’t hindered by a potential setback in their quest for promotion.

Otherwise, this encouraging start could go to waste.
