In just over two weeks, Wolves will kick off the 2016/17 season at the New York Stadium against Rotherham United.

All of the Molineux faithful will be hoping that the upcoming season is an improvement on the last, as Kenny Jackett's side slumped to a 14th placed finish in the Sky Bet Championship.

The low placed finish and the inconsistency of the side throughout the campaign has meant that Jackett's position at the club has come under scrutiny, however the new owners at the club have confirmed that the 54-year-olds position at the club is safe.

It is also unknown what the Wolves line up will be at Rotherham, it could definitely be a promising few weeks for the Molineux faithful as Chinese consortium Fosun International have just taken over the club.

Although it is a t0ugh task to predict the team, in this article Football League World writer Jack Sharp looks at a potential Wolves starting 11 to start the season, lined up in a 4-4-2 formation.....

GK: Carl Ikeme

ikeme

Ikeme has been at Molineux since 2003 - and signed his most recent contract extension in the summer of 2014.

The 30-year-old is now the first choice goalkeeper at the club, after playing second fiddle to Welsh International Wayne Hennessey for a prolonged period of time - however when Hennessey departed for Crystal Palace, Ikeme was the man tasked with being between the sticks for The Wanderers.

Ikeme has made four appearances for Nigeria's national team, and has made 172 appearances for Wolves during his career, conceding an impressive 197 goals at a conceding rate of 0.87 goals per game.

He is contracted to the club until next summer.

RB: Dominic Iorfa

iorfaaaaa

Iorfa has been at Wolves since 2010, signing a professional contract in 2013. The England U21 International has made 68 appearances for the club, assisting 5 but not making the scoresheet as of yet.

The versatile 21-year-old is contracted at the club until 2019, and many if not all around Molineux will be hoping that Iorfa stays for the duration of his contract and perhaps beyond.

He made 42 Sky Bet Championship appearances for the club last term, and he will be hoping to push on in the next campaign and really excel for club and country.

CB: Kortney Hause

hause

Hause is a talented 21-year-old centre back who has represented England's U21 side on 7 occasions. The centre back has been a Wolves player since 2014; he is contracted to remain in a Wolves shirt until the summer of 2019.

The 6' 2" defender joined the club from Wycombe Wanderers in the winter of 2014; since then he has made 44 appearances for The Wanderers, making two assists during this time.

Last season was a campaign hindered by injury for Hause, as he missed 18 league games through a hamstring injury.

With veteran Mike Williamson injured, it is looking likely that Hause will be part of a central defensive partnership come the sixth of august.

CB: Daniel Batth

batthhhhh

Captain of the club Daniel Batth has been a Wanderer since 2009, and has made an impressive 150 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals during this time and assisting a further four.

As long as he is fit for the sixth of August, Batth looks an inevitability to be starting against Rotherham; the 6' 3" 25-year-old centre back has been captain of the club since the 2013/14 season, in which he was an ever-present as Wolves took League One by storm.

Batth, who has had loan spells at both Sheffield Wednesday and United, is contracted at Wolves until next summer.

LB: Matt Doherty

Doherty is perhaps predominately a right back, however with Dominic Iorfa at right back, Doherty has adapted to playing left back at times throughout the season; his efforts were rewarded as he took home the Players' Player and Fans' Player at the clubs end of season awards ceremony in May.

Since joining the club from Bury in 2013, the 24-year-old Irishman has made 113 appearances for the club, scoring four goals and setting up an impressive 14 more.

The ex-Republic of Ireland U21 International signed a three-year contract at the club in September 2015, with the club believing to have the deal of triggering an extra year - this happened with Doherty's existing contract expiring this summer.

RM: Jed Wallace

wallaceeee

Wallace has endured a tough first campaign at Molineux since signing for the club last summer, only making 13 appearances for the club in all competitions last campaign.

He was shipped out on loan to Sky Bet League One side Millwall, and made 14 appearances for The Lions', scoring one goal and assisting four during his time at the club.

Despite the fact he has found first team opportunities hard to come by at Wolves, it is undoubtable that the versatile former England U19 International possesses the quality to be a great player at the club in the next campaign.

CM: Pelé

molineuxxxx9

Pelé is a 24-year-old midfielder who plays for Portugese giants Benfica. Pelé is a client of huge agent Jorge Mendes - Mendes has links with the consortium that are taking over Wolves.

This move could be a real possibility as Pelé is at an age where he needs to be playing consistent first team football - and since joining Benfica in 2015 the ex-Portugal U21 International hasn't made an appearance for the club.

The 24-year-old plays primarily as a defensive midfielder however has played as a central midfielder - his experience suggests he could be a shrewd signing for Wolves in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

CM: David Edwards

edwards33

Edwards has been a Wolves player since 2008, and has experienced a lot with the club during his 255 appearances.

He has scored 34 goals and assisted 13 in a Wolves shirt, however the 30-year-old Welsh International endured a tough season last term, being restricted to only making 29 appearances for Jackett's side.

The fact he only made so few Sky Bet Championship appearances last term may raise question marks over the future of the versatile Welshman.

However, with the experience he has it is undoubtable that Edwards possesses the quality to play past his 2017 contract expiration, whether that will be at Molineux however is definitely unclear.

LM: Ola John

Ola JohnOla John

This is a potential transfer, with Wolves supposedly in talks with SL Benfica regarding the services of the Dutch winger.

John already has experience in the Sky Bet Championship, as he made 28 league appearances whilst on loan at Reading last season - in those 28 appearances, the 24-year-old former Dutch International scored four goals and assisted two.

With only a year left on his contract at Benfica, the chances of this move coming to fruition are a real possibility - and he could be an extremely shrewd signing for Wolves, the vastly experienced versatile player would be a great replacement for currently injured left-sided player Jordan Graham

ST: Joe Mason

masonnnnnn

Mason arrived at Molineux from Championship rivals Cardiff City on a three-year-deal in January of this year.

Although he hasn't been a Wolves player for long, the Irishman has made a good impression at the club - scoring 3 goals and assisting 1 in the 16 games he's played in a Wolves shirt.

His previous clubs include the likes of Plymouth Argyle and Bolton Wanderers, and all in all the 5' 10" striker has scored 48 goals and made 16 assists in 216 career appearances.

He hasn't necessarily been prolific in a Wanderers' shirt thus far; he will be hoping he gets the opportunity to prove himself further in the upcoming campaign.

ST: Nouha Dicko

dickoooo

Dicko has been at the West Midlands club since 2014, and during the few years he has been a Wolves player the 24-year-old former Mali International has established himself as a great player for the club.

His tally of 30 goals and 12 assists in 69 games for the club is an extremely impressive record, and one which underlines his importance to the club.

Dicko was a key part of the prolific attacking trio of 2014/15 at Molineux; as himself, Bacary Sako and Benik Afobe came so close to securing the Wanderers' a playoff place in that campaign.

He is contracted at the club until 2018; most if not all around Molineux will be hoping that the 5' 8" man fulfils that contract and beyond.

So... Wolves fans, would this Starting XI be enough to romp The Millers? Would you be happy with these transfers? Leave thoughts and opinions below!
